Hey,

On a yearly average, which of Perth and Gold Coast/Brisbane gets the most wind?
Ive been to GC a couple of times and the wind has usually been good. But ppl have told me that Perth get more consistant winds on average per year...
Is this true? I thought the wind season was shorter in WA since they barely get any wind at all during autumn, right?
What im trying to figure out is which place gets the most wind all year around, and how long/when the off season is...

Cheers!

perth, hands down. the wind is more reliable and more consistent. the only reason to pick the goldy would be if surfing is your priority and kiting is second- the waves are much better on the gold coast.
most places get little wind during autumn- i think the water is too warm coming out of summer for seabreezes.

Put it this way, since March we've had 4 or 5 decent breezes +25knts.
Last summer was very average but everyone has fingers crossed the El Nino will bring the big seabreezes back this summer.

Stamp, just a quick question. Surf on the Goldy better than where???? The bathtub maybe!!! Hands down better surf on the west coast, and better more consistent wind. If you like waves with no guts and sharing them with half the queensland population then definately the goldy wins. Enough said.

hey luke, i think old mate was asking about perth city, not the west coast in general. compared to perth itself, gold coast waves are heaps better. and when perth beach breaks turn on the crowds are just as bad as the goldy.

don't get me wrong, i'm not defending the place by any means- i stay away from goldy breaks because of the crowds and the attitude. but in terms of waves i reckon perth is a less than average place.

Well I was on the good coast two weeks ago and it was blowing its ass off the three days there. Not in Perth. That is as far as my statistical evidence goes...and yeh Perth waves are **** in summer, like totally crap. Yet there they all are the swarm of kites on surf boards, still don't get it fellas.

Perth waves are xxxx in Summer??????? Correction - Perth waves are xxxx all year round? And that's being very generous with the use of the word "waves"

Just like we'll never get twin tips mowing lawns in whatever surf there is, instead of playing in flat water spots

Each year the game changer is El Nino or Nina the stats do not show that but for stats - dial your zone time of day and annual or month and presto...
Really make U wonder why the Nationals were held when and where they were this year...No amount of nice blokes and great organisation is going to change the stat's

hey,

thanks for all the answers.
the question is mostly about which place is more suitable for kite and surf, on a yearly basis. Some places get good wind during the summer months, but none in the winter etc.. which means that when its good its great but when its bad it all crap for a long time..
goldie has some advantage ofc since the surf is better there, but thats just a backup.. my first choice is definitely kite (flat water)...

i can imaging that both places are awesome during the windy season.. but the real question is how long is the offseason and how bad is it? what is there to do in the meantime?.. hate to spend 3 months doing nothing while waiting for the winds to come back =(

Perth Pros: The seabreeze in summer is awesome almost every day.
Perth Cons: It is home to some of the ugliest people on the planet, and has received awards on numerous occasions from uglypeople.com for having **** ugly women mainly of irish and kiwi descent.

3 months? Perth's off season is closer to 7 months not including the winter 35knt westerly fronts.

At least you can get a root in the off season.

Oh 7 months =( Thats no good! Goldie offseason is more like 3, right? And you can pretty much surf the whole time, but you have to deal with the "cold water" =)
Correct me if im wrong, thats just what someone told me...

Nor San Francisco, or Boston. They usually make the top 10 lists. Thing about wind statistics is there's so many ways to put them together. For example, number of days in a row over 20 knots (about 40 in Cape Town last I was there..).
