Hi All
I'm using a 12m Cult and it seems like its too big for this summer (Last summer I've been ok with a 12m helix)
So I wanna buy an 8m foil kite for kite surfing and snow kite.
What do you suggest?

personally I have been snowkiting with PL for 10 years (have used open cell foils as well but not FS on the snow)
Personally I reckon the 8 m is too small and is squirelly plus flies wildly when wet .The 10 is much more stable and will handle similar winds and will probably be of more use on the water also (similar power/depower to most 7 -8 m SLE kites)
The winds here in oz are nuclear or nothin .The 8 won't do the nothin days and the 10 will be more predictable on the nukin days (fly with short lines also on the snow on these days )

Try Ozone. Cheaper than Flysurfer, better than Flysurfer, better than PL I wish I knew the prices for PL to say cheaper than PL but I don't.
ozonekites.com/products/land-snow-kites

I have learned snowkiting back in 2002 on Flysurfer Mastair - that was rocking machine :)) new Fly's are great I can say nothing bad about them but Ozone are simply more user friendly. In anyway try before you buy.

PL - personally I wouldn't bother. Not because they are bad but because they haven't achieved (yet) the performance that FLy and Ozone offers.

I have read somewhere that with a Peter Lynn you can catch a Fly fisherman.

Thanks for the advise, I actually have access to buy a 10m FS Psycho3 but I thought if I can't use my 12m in +22knots then I cant use 10m FS too! am I right? it seems like foil kites giving you more power per square meter.

I fully agree that Ozone kites are awesome but the problem is that their foil kites are all open cell and cant be used on water as well as snow.

Yes thats correct. If your looking at a bridled foil you would need to look at 8m or smaller. I would go with a PL in 10m or a Flysurfer or HQ NEO around 8m2. powerkites.de/?option=com_kite&view=kite&Itemid=192&kite_id=12'

I found it in your website but it was a little tricky to find it.
Its not in kite surfing or power kites category, its in land board category.

yeah right have you actually tried a PL in the snow?
here's my background .Sell them and used to distribute them .have plenty to gripe about the company .I stand by my advice
the guy wants a kite for snow and water .No doubts about the ozone open cell kites they obviosly rock and I am sure are great on the water ,they are open cell !!!!!(i used open cell for a cupla years on water and had a few swims no biggie Buuut hey is this guy gonna be happy) the water kites are no doubt good on the snow too but are like any LEI on snow so I don't see how they stand out .Does Chasta usethem ? I'm not sure

No he doesn't he only uses Ozone foils, is sponsored by ozone so it speaks for itself but he says he perfers the foil for it's hang time and safety.
I have ozone FX Frenzy 9m and 12m Manta for snow kiting and I think they are great for that application although I wouldn't use them in the ocean.

Remember...the more strings you have, the more strings to get caught up on all the little bits of pokey-uppy ice. And they do! Snow/ice is pesty tangly nightmare and lachy is right about the wind in Aust on the snow - nothing or nuclear, all in the same nano second. Depower is your friend.

Can't comment on open celled kites in the water, never tried it. Seems like the FS have better power though....but only going on seeing people going out in nothing before anyone else gets out. Makes sense - flat foils should be more powerful.

Is there a good reason that you don't want to buy a kite for the water and another kite for the snow?
It seems to me that you will mostly be on water but sometimes snow.
I would take a look at the secondhand market.
You could get a nice tube kite for the water, (did I mention I'm selling a 9m Edge?) and an open celled foil like the Frenzy and still have change from the price of a Flysurfer.

I like Flysurfers though. An 8m Pulse2 would be a pretty good choice for a water + snow kite.

thats right which is why I was initially interested in the PL arc,the depower for our gusty winds was streets ahead of anything for quite some time, the simplicity is very nice .too bad they let the opportunity pass by and didn't get the message out.
Mainly ride LEI SLE on the water now but still love the PL for upper end days on the water and the snow of course

If you don't want to pay full price for new see if there are any 10 m syns or venoms for sale .the 8 or 10 m bomba would be good too

Hello Kadkhah,

Here is my input as a heavy Flysurfer user... I own a 8m Psycho3 and a 10m Speed2. I tried the 10m Psycho4 . I only describe my experience on the ocean.

- If you have the money, the Psycho 4 is an exceptional kite. I wrote a brief review on this site www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43101
- 20 to 24 knots on a 10 m Psycho 3 is probably the sweet spot for an experienced 75kg rider who likes being powered up but still comfortable and safe. This is my favorite wind range on a 10 m Flysurfer Speed2.
- I have bought a 8m Psycho3 recently (cost reason and I don't need the extra turning speed and reactivity of the Psycho4 for a 8m kite): the 8m Psycho3 will be my kite above 24 knots. I tried it in 18-22 knots on a relatively large board (132cmx41cm). i could stay upwind, could play, but I was asking for more power.

Do not hesitate if you have any query...

Cheers,

Fred

That is correct but its easier for those sharp edges to cut my Leading edge tube Plus I have to carry a pump with my self at all times.

I think my best reason is that I can't afford two kites plus the one I have! and I only use my snow kite 1 month a year so its much better if I can use my water kite on snow.

That is so true. I have even sent email to Flysurfer and they recommend Puls2 too.
There is an 8m one for sale here is seabreeze but unfortunately the owner is not answering his mobile. (I've called him 6 times different days)

I couldn't find any in the buy and sell section, Do you know who is the Peter Lynn dealer in WA and if they trade second hand kites or not?

Fred
I understand from your review that P3 and P4 are very similar.
I know that P4 is an awesome kite but unfortunately its out of my budget.
Will you trade your 8m p3 with a 10m p3 (as I can get a 10m P3 with a reasonable price)?

Thanks mate.
PL Prices look reasonable, They don't have small second hands though and they don't have 8m in Perth at all

It seems like I have to stock to the 10m Psycho 3 that I can get from my friend!
(I wish I could swap it with an 8 or 6m one)

Anyway if you know some one who have an 8m or 6m psycho3/ Puls2/Speed2 and its too small for him/her tell me that I can swap my 10m with his/hers.

(Mine is bigger )

I have a p3 8m and have flown the pulse 2 8m. Both are excellent above 20kn. Both are ok until 30 and you can hold them down at 35 but only in "stay alive mode".

A friend has a pulse 2 6m that wants to sell but not swap for a 10m P3. I would also sell my p3 8m but only for the right price (it is like new)..... so i could buy a p4 8m ;)
