Ashkiter,

Do you head across from the mainland or do you have to get a boat across, it only looks like a couple of kms?

It does look pretty awesome, that's for sure!!!!

Cairns can be touch and go depending on the timing. You can get there and have a week of solid wind or it can be 8-12 knots every day for a week.

Try get up to Cooktown or Cape Flattery if you get a chance, it has much higher reliability of wind. Alternatively look at Kitesurfari who do a 4 day kiting trip which is almost guaranteed to be 15-35 knots every day.

Hi!

Is Port Douglas a good spot for beginners who like flat water?

Thanks!

Port Douglas is great, good clean flat water and a beautiful beach.

Yorkeys/Cairns is over-rated..........

I second that about Yorkeys. It's over rated and very bumpy. Only for hardcorers that love to shred little waves and the water is like poo, not to mention crocs next to the marina! Port Douglas is da best. Been there few times. We'll be there again in June too!

Hey Boyer, Just Set up and kite across from Palm Cove and cruise back - if the wind craps out then its a down winder to Ellis Beach and a chat to a nice local for a lift back :) - only happened the once.

Also hear the crew do the odd down winder from Yorkies to Double Island - hoping to get a crew together for Sunday if keen???

Hey Ashkiter,
.
I would love to but don't think i'll get a leave pass from Sydney. I know my commitment is questionable but not much I can do. Have an awesome time, i'll be surfing up the midnorth coast of NSW this weekend. This is laughable too, it has been pumping lately at home, i'm heading up the coast it will be flat no doubt!!!!

Enjoy

Glad to hear that Port Douglas has clean flat water, I thought it was like Yorkeys.

I'm a french student coming to Sydney at the end of July to study, I will land at Cairns on June 24th and was looking for a beautiful spot for beginners. Port Douglas seems to be a good compromise for beauty and accessibly (no driving license, and not enough $$$ for a kitesurfary).

Cape Tribulation also looks great...Good for beginners?

Alva Beach, Bowen, Congulla, Luicinda in our region are all magic places ;)
Its called blowen Bowen and Alva cranks lots in Winter.
Cooktown North is where its at and Archer Point if you get that far. It is on average the windiest place in Australia. Out the Reef is where the big winds and waves are all the way up to PNG and the south pacific Islands you find nice SE trades.
