I have booked a holiday there with the wife and kids and was hoping I will be able to get some kiting in .Would love any feedback from anyone who's been there before on places to go.

The wind was mostly southerly when I was there. The resort is on the north side of the island.

You can launch at the point at the south end of the island, or get a boat to a sand bar in the middle of the bay and ride around there.

If you get a boat and you want them to come and get you later then you need someone to tell the boat guys. They won't remember and it's kind of unpleasant sitting on a sandbar in the hot sun waiting to be picked up.

I launched once at the end of the air strip then rode along the reef at the south end of the island. Look out for aeroplanes.

you can launch on the golf course (in 2004 you could, things might have changed) and kite at the beach there but only at mid tide and above, the water is shallow and the reef sharp.

the sandbar gorgo is talking about is completely under at high tide too, another reason to make sure you get someone to pick you up.

I was just there 4 weeks ago for a wedding. Bought by gear but no wind :( - from my limited research it only starts to kick up this month so I guess you are in luck.

Golf course was flooded/swamped when I was there due to it being just after the cyclone (other parts of the resort also a little submerged but in general they had done a great job getting things back in operation)

Which resort are you staying at? I was at Lomani and out the front there was plenty of beach area to launch from (except when we had a king tide). Most of the time the reef seemed to be under at least a metre of water, but I can't remember if I saw it at low tide.

From my reconnoitering (went for a run one day) it looked like launchable area on the beach all the way from the Lomani resort heading counterclockwise to the south-east corner of the island - occassional patches of rocks etc but you were always within 100m of a sandy area to setup.

Not going until mid September which sounds like it should still be windy at that time of year. Will only take my gear if theirs a good chance of getting a few sessions in. We are staying at plantation resort so I'm hoping I can just walk to the other side of the island and go kiting. Hopefully there may be a few other kiters around. I think it may pay to invest in a pair of booties.
