Hello all, been having great fun reading some of these posts especially the 'You know your addicted when...' sooo true

Anyway, I'm due to be moving from the UK to Sydney at the begining of June to start work for a Comms company

Can anyone suggest the best places to look for accomadation in respect to being near good kitesurfing spots. I've been kiting the south coast of UK for about 4 years so would describe myself as intermediate ???? I'll be working all over Sydney so I need to be near good road conections, the office is about 15 mins from the city

My contact in aus suggests somewhere in the north beach suburb, but as he's not a kiter I'm after any suggestions

Any useful or amusing comments welcome!

Most of Sydneys wind is in the Botany Bay Area. Check out www.nswkba.com.au for a list of maps and descriptions. Make sure you join the club so you can get to know a bunch of great kiters.(PM me if you need some help)The club has a kite buddy system that helps kiters new to the area get to know spots, local rules and other tips.

Some kiters live in San Souci, Dolls Point. Even living in the Eastern Suburbs would be and option maybe 20mins from the closest spot. Northern beaches is mainly surf riding and even tho a beautiful area to live its claimed to get less wind and limited kiting wind directions than the Botany Bay area.

If you want wave action another 20mins from Botany Bay is Wanda Beach. Now its winter there is quite a few westerly's so the Bay area is the only real place in Sydney with spots ridable in a W'ly.

All the best!

If you are looking for accomodation, then on the South side of Sydney will give you more options for kitesurfing.
Probably less costly housing, just as good access to the city, much better access to the airport.
Call in to see us at Kitepower we can show you on maps where all the local spots are and you will most likely meet some of the locals. They are all a friendly bunch and all look out for each other and newbies on our beaches.

We have a place for people like you EJon - it's called Bondi. While you're there remember not to wear sunscreen - it helps us identify the english in the dark.

No seriously, IMHO the better kite spots are on the south side. Botany Bay is great flat water and there a a few decent surf beaches out further south.
Suburbs like Rockdale, Kogarah, Ramsgate & Dolls Point are reasonably close to the city as well as a few major roads that should help you get anywhere you need to go. Rent is also a fair bit cheaper out there than right in the city/east/inner west.

Thanks for all your comments, most apprec.

Junglist: I live in East Grinstead so go to various places such as Shoreham, Worthing, Pevensay and Witstable in those lovely -1 windchill winter northerlies!

Extreme: Depends how friendly the locals are

Hope to see you all out on the water soon (waiting for visa confirmation at mo) Looks like Botany Bay area is favorite, not sure about Bondai, how could I be snobish about tourists if I live their!

If anyone hears about a flat/house share in this area avl. mid June, if you could pm me would be great
