I spent 12 months up there last year (not by choice). I was suprised because the winds were quite consistant. Strong morning easterlies in winter and moderate NW afternoon seabreezes in summer. I would recommend the 'spoil bank' as a good all round spot as it has smooth water and is close to town (500m to the hospital). Also works on any wind and any tide (tides can vary by 7m in a 6hrs). It is a long hook shaped sand spit which was man made by dredged spoil.

A 12m and a 16m kite would probably do for most days. I used to wear a full steamer and booties as there are some nasty things in the water. (Jelly fish, stone fish, sea snakes etc). Eventually i did away with the booties but avoided treading around in the water.

Its a bit spooky but worth the effort.

Have fun
