Just following on from the post wrt Flysurfer Speed upwind ability perhaps for the 07/08 season we should have a WAKSA organised , sponsered contest for some events; eg Upwind maybe using a GPS.

Other events possibly speed trial, downwind race. masters event .. Use your imagination.
Any support.

Hi Jeremy,

Several 'social races' occured between Pelican Point and Melville (and back) these last years. These included a serious upwind part and a pure downwind part. There is no prize, just fun.
You might be interested in joining the next one if you want to test your upwind/downwind skills. You can find more details about these races by doing a search on this forum.

Great suggestions to WAKSA. I am sure that WAKSA will appreciate your input.

Cheers,

Fred

I almost wanna get one after reading the previous thread, i started this summer, went a bit nuts (when ever the wind was blowing) and my poor LEI is looking the worst for wear, and doesn't re-launch as easily as the manual says.

So if i get one, love to do an upwind race. would be fun to go back to WA aswell.

Pricy though.

You guys are weird!! Upwind riding is a pain in the ass, something that has to be done to get time to trick or slash waves. Who wants to turn upwind racing into a contest??

Oh well, whatever floats your boat..

cheers

I think course racing would be the best test of skills and gear, and also pretty good fun.

I don't mind doing an upwinder, because I know there's a downwinder at the end of it!

Suggest you come along to the WAKSA end of season party/AGM this Wednesday at 7.30pm at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Cottesloe. Free beer, and you can make your suggestion in person!

My suggestion for an upwind challenge was really to get some good riders of similar ability with different types and makes of kites. The aim would be to see which kites perform upwind and which don,t. I don't regard going upwind as being a buzz rather a necessary evil!

I,ll try to get to the AGM.

A course race could be a bit chaotic unless maybe a format of match racing.. Go off in pairs?

Much interest in a Rotto to Cottesloe event?
Could be fun event for many and for those who are competitive maybe a race?

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21847&SearchTerms=race2rotto Despite a heap of hard work by Brooksey the Freo Port Authority would not give permission - note it is illegal to kite to/from Rotto/mainland

I'm always keen to see a bit of racing action

Course racing is well established in USA, and is being touted as an Olympic sport. Have a listen to Ryan Ricatelli on the last ASNews cast. Seems like St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco is leading the way.

Tune in here: http://asnews.net/

In Perth, seems to me the best place would be Nedlands Yacht Club for organised racing.

All good ideas, but works so much better when you get involved with your local association and actually help get the events off the ground. WAKSA can provide all sorts of support for these events but just does not have enough people. So if you want to see some of these things happen come along to the AGM TONIGHT at the OBH from 7.30pm (Wed 18/4) or email [email protected] and come to a committee meeting. They're open to all members.
