Yeah, the guys are certainly stepping up the standard. Wind must of been pumping as not normal for Ben to stay hooked for most of the clips or he was over powered?? Gives the rest an idea of what is next!!!

dead onshore winds- doubt anyone would be able to do half those airs unhooked in that direction.

Thats the best footage I've seen so far I really like the way are surfing and looks closer to the surfing of today I think. Ian just gets better & better he makes it look so smooth and easy. More of this please I could watch it all day!!!

I didn't realise hooked in up-wind bunny hops are "stepping up the standard".
I'm guessing Ben is hooked in so he can land it, as Ryland pointed out, doing it for real in these conditions would be about 100 times harder.
I hope this isn't what is next or we are going backwards, dudes boosting big airs hooked in un-strapped up-wind was seen in the 2003 movie ten4.

I give credit where credit is due, but I can't let this one slide by, cleverly disguised upwind bunny-hops aren't the future and never will be. Yes they are fun to do, but lets not loose sight of what's really going on here.

p.s. All that said, I got some enjoyment from the vid and it made me wish i was out there doing the same thing.

I think they are making the most of the conditions and better than most crew...so unless u got something better than sperm on your arm or your computer mouse up your bottom.
Unfortunately it is harder to get a straight boost out of lip when it is more onshore..

To the crew who are saying that the kite is being used here - chill out -

From what I see the boys are using the kite to get some speed and then use the wave to launch off

For those haters - claiming this is not legit, please post your vid here to show us how it should be done

It certainly looks like fun to me - why cant we appreciate that ?

You know nothing... fact. The kite is pretty much the entire reason they are getting in the air.

You aren't going to see many vids because it is actually hard to do it "legit"... funny that isn't it. I think I saw maybe 2 legit airs in Rylands whole vid, not because he is a bad kiter (in fact in my opinion he is probably the best) but because it is actually hard to do. The airs in the vid (in this thread) you can pretty much pull off every go if you wanted to.

Sure it's fun, no one is denying that, if I was there I would be dong the same.

^^^

The future of kitesurfing is whatever the riders want it to be.

Adapt to the conditions and use the kite.

If you have to pretend the kite isn't there, why use a frickin kite to start with?

Who gives a sh1t if it's ASP standard? It's not surfing anyway.

Yes....I ride a twintip in the surf cos it gives me way more options. The waves are usually sh1t in the wind and it's never clean. Where I live offshore kiting doesn't happen. If the surf is good, I go surfing....strange that.

Dunno why everyone is so insecure about kites and boards and straps. Whatever floats your boat. This sport involves a bloody big kite at the end of 4 lines. It won''t disappear!!!

nice smooth and fast landings in the end section of the wave that looked shallow and horrible

Didn’t take long for me to learn to jump, twist, rotate, dangle and do the cool twinnie tricks, but strapless, what these guys are doing is bloody amazing and still way beyond what most of our skill levels will probably ever be. This is only one trick in their repertoire.

How about giving credit where credit is due and if you are going to dis the guys, post one of yourself so we can see if your skills equal your criticism.

Ryland, keep them coming.

Rowdy, surely if you were there you wouldn't be doing the same thing, you'd be out there pushing the legit moves and kiting the way kiting should be done and leaving those wannabe pro riders in your wake.

C'mon, enough with the false modesty, tell us how it is Rowdy.

In those conditions I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be...
I'm not saying either of these dudes aren't or can't push the limits, I'm just pointing out that what is really happening in this video.
This thread just shows how few people really understand what is going on.
