I have a 9m 08 rebel. Have found on a couple of occassions that after turning (light wind conditions), if I pull the power on after sweeping the kite, the kite tends to stall and does a reverse sweep before dropping towards the water. Interested if anyone has experienced anything similar and how I can prevent it from happening.
Appreciate any tips or hints on the 08 rebel.
Thanks

They are great kites though the larger rebel sizes are prone to stalling when over sheeted. (i.e - to much back line pressure) This also happens to my 10m, I believe the problem has even been acknoladged by the designers - who will take care of it next year.
In all fairness it happens to most kites, though it is just more noticable with these sized Rebel 08's.
However it is fully manageble - when using the kite in lighter winds (the only time this really happens) just give it a slight amount of de power strap and do not leave the kite looking for power straight down wind but continue to sweep it for power through this point.
In no time at all you will learn to adjust slightly so it will not happen again or as often.

hi,
I've been flying the new 08 rebels for over a month now and I've never had that problem.
Maybe its the way i fly it but I've never had an issue with back stalling.
This is also way i like to use them for wave riding cos they drift really well and don't stall backwards.
I do fly with a small amount of over sheet but very small.
Got a heap of local guys on 08 rebels and they never stall backwards either.
I have moved the knots out to the furthest ones on the bar and got a fair bit of depower strap pulled in, so i might put a small leader on the backlines to give myself some depower strap back.
If set up right the rebel's shouldn't stall backwards, that's why i fly them.
cheers,

i have found on a couple of occasions the 12meter and 9 meter have backstalled when doing a tight downloop with the bar pulled all the way in flying the kite at the bottom end of the wind range, so yeah they can backstall, the kite hoons upwind though if they are sheeted out a little when in the bottom end wind range.

Yeh... just need to go a bit easier on the bar on the 08 vs. 07. I have a 08 12m. I used to be able to use microhook on light days on 07 (was set on third knot down, one more than factory). Now I have 08 bar set up on first knot (knot furthest from bar) and it works magic as long as you don't choke it. The kite tells you almost immediately when you've sheeted in too hard. Give it a little room to breath and it perks up right away. Bit like my dog on a choke collar...

hey Indi
Ive been flying the rebel for a couple of weeks now,i experienced the same thing at first in the lighter stuff to(-10 knots)it only happens when the kites massivly oversheeted..just try letting it breath in those situations or even try giving it abit of depower strap,or back it off a knot on the bar,!worked for me:)

Thanks...
Any hints on trimming / setting up etc to optimise the kite. I see that there's been some discussion on the 5th line set-up and re-launching etc. Appreciate any on-topic comments.
