Just a note to let those interested know that the gate to Bonner Point has been shut by council, again with no notification to residents or interested parties,
It will make it most dificult to kite there or access any one injured or in trouble when the westerlies blow over the weekend.
Give Sutherland council a ring and speak to the parks and gardens manager and let him know of the inconvenience to all park uses.

Unbelievable !!! Not again ! Does anyone know of the best persone to contact and the number to reach them on ? If so, can they please post it here for the purposes of maximising the public pressure on the Council. The more people that make a quick call, the more chance we have of getting a favourable outcome.

I'm back boys and I'm ready to rip it up at Kurnell. You are all forgiven for your past indescretions against me. That is with the exception of The Spainyard and his little mate in the baby blue boardies. Those two cowboys need to reform their ways before the fox will forgive. They have to learn - everyone gives way to the fox - everyone.

Just to show you I'm fairdinkum boys I'll give you a hand with the gate. Do you want me to rip it out from the hinges or drive a fully laden APC thru the fckr.

OR would you prefer I " Talk " with Big Steve Burke , the Director of Sports,Parks etc at Sutho Council , telephone 0297100333. He was pretty well pissed off last time one of his little grunts shut it up ., It won't hurt if a number of you blokes make calls as well.

Yeah.get angry GrrrrGrrr!!

I would be very polite if I was you!

Kitesurfers dont carry any weight anywhere.

Could there be a reason for the gate being shut?
My guess would be trying to keep hoons and hooligans, rogue 4 wheelers etc. out of the area.

Pretty wild place.Probably end up like your primo spot ,Dolls Point.
Drive out the wrong way and wreck your tyres on the huge spikes that pop up out of the road !

Suminks wrong over there !

Hey RM
You're one agro b*****d, but I've seen you on the water, and you rip.
Probably one of the best kiters on the eastern seaboard.

On a serious note, I rang Steve Burke this morning re the gate closure, and he knows nothing about it.
He's following up on it though. Nice bloke, so when you ring, don't give him a hard time. The more calls the better.
A kiter cut his foot on the point yesterday, and I explained that we had to carry him all the way back to his car.

I didn't see any of you "Carrying" that guy to his car

Pain in the backside having to walk your gear to the point from the boat launch area parking area, but it's understandable that they've shut the gate if people are abusing it......after all it is a nature reserve!

Hi Caelah but you are wrong it is not a nature reserve it is just council parkland which we all pay rates to the council for maintenance to keep it in pristene condition for our use, The nature reserve starts at the two yellow buoys out in Quibray Bay and extends across Towra to Woolooware Bay.
We just have a closet greeny from the council trying to include it in the nature reserve hence his boss knows nothing about the gate being closed.
If they want to keep four wheel drives off the beach then there are other ways of doing that without precluding genuine users from accessing council parkland.
If we don't have it reopened then it will be chaos down there in the winter westerlies.

I thought I'd do a little looking around on the old google war-horse and found that "Bonner Point" is listed as a "reserve". It doesn't really matter if its council, state or country a reserve is a reserve.

Caelah only pointed out that people maybe abusing the area. She's not implying that it was kite boarders it's probably drunk kids trashing the place and not caring. Add that to the fact that it backs onto (as I found in my research trip) the most important wet land reserve in Sydney they figured they’d try to keep it safe. But alas in the true council form they seam to not have appeased everyone involved.

Now it was nice to see that the people from Kurnell showed up to support the Botany group, and I'm sure the Botany Bay guys would come out to support if you guys organized something. Start a club to talk to the council (you may have done this already forgive me if you have). The Botany Bay council have apparently been very receptive to the South Sydney guys and its working out well.

From the sounds of it this is going to be an issue at Kurnell so get organized, work with the council, and nip it in the butt before its a problem.

I think that's a great idea, ask the South Sydney club to talk to the council, the club is there to support kiters in the bay area. I can talk to the committee members if you'd like and see what can be done.

There was a fishing club that controlled access to a dam we used to kite on in South Africa with a locked gate. We joined the club and all got a key. Easy. If the council want to keep out teeny boppers maybe they could just give all genuine kiters a key to the gate? Just a thought.

Thanks greenpat, that's a good suggestion to provide the council with.
