All,

Unfortunately due to a failure to secure all required approvals for the event the Race2Rottnest has to be cancelled.

Thanks for everyone's support to date and keep an eye out on kiteboardingwa.org.au/ for future events.

Huge effort Brooksy, well done....shame, because you put in a lot of selfless time to line up all the pieces, just one didn't come through.....looks like uninterrupted commerce wins the day.

Can't wait to kite across anyway

It's impossible dealing with the crap to simply sail to Rotto .... I've done it 100 times on my boat ..... so go think.

OK, ****em, lets do a real race ..... how about Leighton to Pinaroooooooo! Just like Ledge to Lano, just a suburban version, and a little longer. I'll be there in my floating wheelchair.

In fact bugger them all ....... who'll join me on a CapeTown to Cottesloe and keep the RIA pricks out of the deal completely??

I'm with Gasman. Keep it simple. Port to Pinno. Inshore, less if any permits required, downwind all the way, a few safety boats if available but not critical... lots of summer beach onlookers, BBQ at Pinaroo.........say no more!!! It's all about arriving.... not winning!

Well done Brooksy......!

all the best

Gutted to hear that brooksy, you did a phenominal job, predominantly on your own.

yeah lets do a suburban race instead simple less hassle and max exposure.
Scabs to lano i reckon.

It is such a shame that the bureaucracy is killing such a fantastic event!
However I agree, do not let the spirit down, get something that will rock the bastards, the more attendance and exposure you will get, the better for the next year effort.
Good luck, and so sorry I cannot be in Perth to be part of it.

Thanks for everyone's support. Especially kiterdan, andyg, gruezi, youngy, Richard P, waksa and aksa.

Also get behind these sponsors as they took the risk and supported the event (hope this doesn't count as an ad Laurie):

Important Note about kitesurfing to/from Rottnest:
You must obtain approval to do so - and I can't give you advice on who exactly, mainly because they have been asked not to be bombarded by a thousand requests.
Minimum requirements will look something like support boat, PFD, flare. Keep in mind the boat needs to be able to get to Rotto in the same conditions as you, so it needs to be fast and like swell and chop.
If you do not have approval they will remove you from the water and take your gear off you - they were very clear on that. They have a zero tolerance approach.
Remember it only takes 1 to stuff it up for all. Also a number of officers are authorised to stop you so you will most likely get caught.
