Heya Im heading to Rainbow beach next week on holidays (yarhooooo!) hoping there will be some wind... Wondering if there are any local kiters up that way to point me in the right direction regarding good spots/restrictions etc?

hey Killa...rode the shallows at Tin Can Bay (just east of the Fraser Island ferries) about 6 weeeks ago and we all had a ball. Just DONT screw up in the deep....its full of BIG toothy nasties and the local fishos will agree.

Killa,
I will have to agree with tezza49er, there are a few noahs around Innskip Point. Depending on the direction of the wind there are a few spots. In NE try northern side of Double Island thats if you have a 4x4 and try Teewah Beach in both SE & NE, but just north or south of the flags at Rainbow is worth it. I don't know of any resrictions in the area.

Have a good weekend Killa,

Hmm yup shallow sounds awfully good. You only freaked me out a wee bit! Just ran out of my last can of shark repellant. Hopefully there will be other kiters/swimmers/small children/animals in the water to keep the odds down hey! Wish me luck! Its been a while since Ive been out so I may be a bit of a human pilchard...

I kited there about four weeks ago, magic spot indeed. I flew basically out the front of the surf club, nice wide beach. I'm pretty sure it was blowing NE which due to the angle of the beach made it directly onshore. Spoke to some locals on the beach who said I was about the third kiter they had ever seen. Lots of 4WDs on the beach so remember to roll up your lines.
They make alltime pies at the bakery.
