Hi,
I am currently re-fibreglassing an old Phil Byrnes 6'4" supa-lite board and have the surface fairly even and ready to fibre glass. I was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to do the top-sheet. I know to let the bottom sheet fold over the rail about 1&1/2" or 2" but not sure if I do the bottom or top sheet of fibreglass first, and do I wrap some of the top sheet around the rails onto the bottom. I think I have the rest pretty well sorted out. There are still a couple of minor pressure dings I haven't filled, but hoping resin will fill these as I roll it into the fibreglass. Anyone have any suggestions on DIY fibreglassing? Any comments or advice much appreciated. Apart from comments like don't sniff resin! haha
Cheers

p.s. Poor Rellie, that design for the other experimental board is coming along nicely and will start construction once this one is finished.

Hi Northside.,,,,,

Take care with the glassing, it is a fine job that many a shaper wont do. In fact there are a lot or in my time were a lote of people who did only that Glassing. Its technical and can stuff the whole board up in no time.

Careful too of the pressure dings, i guess these are in the centre of the deck, filling them up level with resin will cause extra weight, also with the big wad then of resin you may be likely to damage the foam further when riding, ie lots of force on the resin pushing into foam. My suggestion would be just to go with it and be resigned that there will be pressure dings in the deck.

Looking forward to seein the old board in new tip top shape....and also cant wait to try the secret project!!

I use to work in the Shop.
sounds like the link got you sorted it is cool to recreate an old stick. The only thing with poly boards is the deck will compress especally with 4oz superlight glass, unless as you are reinforcing with glass but that adds to the weight.
If you can try a tufflight I would recomend it. They are very responsive to pop airs on and whip arround. I rode my poly surfboards when I started riding unstrapped it was unreal and i have't looked back.
