What is the recommended self launch technique for the Rebel. This is my first hybrid kite and is it the same way you self launch a C kite by folding over a wing tip?

No.

Use the Bow launching method.

Make sure you start in light wind!

I find the bow method works but when winds are on the light side, use a hybrid method of bow launch, with a little pressure on the 5th line so the kite doesnt just skid and end up downwind for a hot launch

Hi Harks 98

I'm in the same boat as you mate, flew my new Rebel 12m this morning for the first time...very sweet.

Have only had a Cabrinha CO2 up till now which I could self launch in pretty much any wind strength. I've seen bows self launched from the LE down position in 18-20knots but don't know how that would go in a stronger breeze.

I've had a bit of a search through past threads but not found anything yet.

I'm driving up to Shark Bay/Exmouth next week and going to stop and kite along the way so expect I'll be doing a bit of self launching/landing.

If anyone's got any tips or the name of a past thread I can have a read of, it would be appreciated.

J-P

The Rebel self launches like a C-kite.
Sand on the wing tip.

Hi jquigley.
As you know,
Kitesurfing morphs into something else from 23knots++ on.
It becomes a different sport.
In serious wind,
Self-landing and self-launching requires the controlled approach.
There's no pulling of strings, no twiddling of leaders.(fingers crossed).
There's no haphazard jerking-off when in launch-mode.
There's too much gay sh1t to tangle up the works.
That's why I invented LaunchPad (patent-pending) when I switched from C to Bow.
Keep an open mind.
Regards 'slave.

As you wish, master.

LaunchPad,
the sickest, self-launch system on the blue planet.
It's better than an assisted launch.
Safer.
Eliminates human-error.
The kite-betty has been sacked.

Waveslayer ......
Is there anywhere to gain information on this "Launch pad" you speak of ?
I have no friends so I am always open for new 'self' launch methods

This launch pad you speak of....does it have wings?

Reminds me of the 5 yr old that goes to the chemist to buy a box of tampons.

Says the chemist: you shouldn't need those at your age

Says the 5 yr old: Oh they're not for me I can already ride a bike, surf and play tennis....they're for my little brother he's only 3 and still learning.
