Just noticed my chickem loop line was showing a dangerous level of wear and was wondering what was the best type of rope to replace it with. I guess it is about 6mm thick, and about 80cm long. It is for my fuels, the tricky part of it seems to be tying it off to the ring on the chicken loop to fit inside the 5th line barrel. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hey Bowski,

You want the braided grey Spectra. Most good kite shops should sell it by the length.

Good winds,

hm... usually, when you replace your chicken loop line, it comes with the depower line AND the chicken loop at the end of it...Usually tied to the depower strap with a bow line knot.... So I assume, from what you're saying, that you would have to replace the whole bit (C/L and depower line)... My call would be to go see your retailer for spare parts...
Home made can work... but not always!
better safe than sorry....

Change it now before you regret it. It is not worth taking the risk mate.

As soon as it starts to show signs of fraying,"replace it. I checked mine on Saturday and thought"I need to do something about that". It snapped yesterday(Sunday). The supplier has a replacement( thank's Ral inn), so alls good.

Good to see you are still alive Dopple, wasn't sure if you had run off and joined the PKRA world tour!! Was down at Inverloch for most of the weekend and had a ball, the surf was cranking at the bar and the wind was howling. Had a great kite with Hally, Pete and Fish. When you off next send me a text.

Mate replace it asap. Just snapped mine last weekend on my fuel (when i thought it had another good couple months in it) doing a solo down winder, had to swin a few hundred meters and walk 3 klms not fun. Any way bought a new one for $30 but all it is is some spectra rope from a sailing supply shop and if you have access to a industrial sewing machine double over the chicken end loop and sew together. I am going to make a few spares and get my local canvas shop to run them through his machine, i will never have to wonder when it's going to snap again.
