Hi guys,

I have been getting into waves more seriously for a few months now, including a couple strapless sessions on a 6" fish when the conditions were right but I can t seem to get it right.

I m either using the power of the kite and not "feeling" the wave or whenever I am dropping in the wave I loose line tensio and the kite drops. I have always been riding hooked in, is that the problem ? What would be your advice to start riding unhooked ?

Second questions what is the best way to keep the kite up when you fall in the impact zone ? Pointing the kite towards the incoming wave or towards the shore, not moving ?? Had to release the safety this we to avoid the worst... lucky it wasn t too long a swim

Any help appreciated

I'm no pro, But since no ones answered in over 8 hours I'll mention what I do

1. I use the kite and wave together personally, keep the kite low and always moving to prevent slack lines. Where's your kite when you hit the lip?? it should be turning back down the wave in the direction your about to head.

2.Under no circumstances point your kite towards shore. The wash will push you under your kite, slackening your lines and in big waves that will ruin your day.
Between waves body drag to retrieve your board but as the wave approaches always swing your kite back to pull you through the wave.

I have just started with a strapless surfboard and find when I do a bottom turn into a re-entry and the lines go slack just crank your kite into a loop and it will give you everything you need to line up that next section, you may find yourself doing 3 or 4 loops on a wave if its long enough!! enjoy!!
