What sort of conditions can we get at Rottnest? Seems to be windier and have bigger waves than anywhere else on the west coast.

How do we get there and where are the kiting spots??
any flatwater bays?

Are the waves beach breaks or offshore reef breaks??

cheers

and have bigger waves than anywhere else on the west coast. - yes
can get very large

How do we get there - ferry from Fremantle or Hillarys

and where are the kiting spots?? any flatwater bays? - salmon bay flatwater and bombys when the swells on

Are the waves beach breaks or offshore reef breaks?? - in a Swester salmon bay is your friendliest option long sand beach

the rest is pretty well gnarly reef shorelines the north side of the isle has nicer beaches (winter option) but is pretty well offshore in a Swester and a long swim back to Perth

Iv windsurfer at rotto at stark bay, which is the north side of narrow neck. It is pretty off shore but there are very very fun waves, nice steep clean waves. No matter what bay you go to it will be good for some form or another ie flatwater, waves ...... I have had one of my best windsurfs there, me and 2 of my mates for 5 hours and yes it is bloody windy. We took out boat over, rigges on the boat and sailed from it, but i would imagine it would be a bit harder with a kite coz we just tied out gear off the back of the boat when we needed a rest. If you are looking for waves, make sure it is high tide otherwise there is hardly any swell, but when its hight tide.
Have fun searching

i was just kiting salmon bay yesterday and it was GREAT. easy to launch from. catch the bus around the island, it's $7 for an adult and lasts all day.

We sailed there but i'm considering taking the ferry next time so i can do a quick weekend trip.

The old Kingston Army Barracks has backpackers. Ring the main Rottnest Island Authority accommodation number.
