I was looking on the SS website and saw a procedure on how to cut off the stainless steel rod that goes through the bar (which the chicken loop goes through). Can anyone inform me why i would want to do that? Are there advantages of having this?

You can turn the bar more freely with the post removed. Not as much pressure is being put against the chicken loop rope when you turn it.
