Buying your first 2 line kite from a random person who couldnt wait for you to leave so they can tell there mate's how the just sold there old kite to some weirdo for a thousand bucks that saw people doing at st kilda and thought they would give it a go coz it looked cool. Taking it down to the beach on a forty knot day blowing it up with your mouth, And after rolling out the lines and getting your mate to stand directly down wind with the kite wraped firmly around him you yell " OK "

stooopidest thing ive done was get into this sport. i have enough equipment to open a kite school, but still want more equipment. I know the weather that well that people at work ask me for my forcast for the day and planning a weekend away doesn't happen unless its near the ocean (or a lake) and with some kite gear coming on the trip.

Gotta admit Hookworm's first post is hard to beat ...
My stooopidest thing was arriving at Boracay a couple of weeks ago ... having a big big first nite on the social scene at White Beach and then getting up the next day with a huge hangover, going out in 20kts plus on my new brand Switchblade and and after having ****ed-up somehow trying to fly the thing with the bar around the wrong - could'nt work out what I was doing wrong until I sobered up the next day...great place though ...

Waited on the beach at woodies for 2 hrs on Sunday, checked my mobile after one hour, put it my kite shorts pocket, breeze finally came in and out I went with the mobile in the pocket.

Good night Mobile.

setting up at the frying pan in Noosa when there was no wind but plenty of seaweed ,launching your kite then trying to have a run, but the wind is too light to even keep your kite up so u end up dropping it in the water. afer 5 minutes of dragging your kite back you get back to the beach to find that you have 5 kilos of seaweed on each line. then had to spend about an hour trying to pick all the ****en **** of my ****en lines

Best tricks to do in that sort of wind is either 360's (fly the kite 360 degreesround the wind window )

or handle passes (unhook leash and stand someone as far downwind as you deem safe and chuck him the bar)

I posted this once before,It's was pretty stupid,so hear it is again,

quote:
To set the scene,I'm a 40 + guy with a bit of a beer gut thing happening who hasn't really had that much to do with the beach and ocean scene.Well, after pondering the New or Second hand purchase I(or the amber fluid)decide to buy new and I rock on down to SHQ in Sandringham.I'm in the shop, decided on the kite, board, harness ect, and now it's time to try the wetty on for size.In the change room I'm thinking,"Sh$t these things are hard to get on".Once on,looking in the mirror I'm thinking"hey, not bad, sucks the gut in,I'm looken good".
Stroll out of the changeroom looking for the sales rep to make sure the fits ok.As I'm walking through the shop,a young bloke who works there looks over and whispers,"Hey dude,I'ts on backwards. All i could say was,"f$ck,that's why it was so hard to put on.The look on his face,it was priceless, and he was trying so hard not to laugh.

Could have been worse,I could have ended up on the beach with it backwards

Steve

Good idea Galah! Laurie, you'll be hearing from my lawyers.

Just as soon as they get back from Tahiti.

Alternatively, all offers of out-dated still functioning Nokias will be greatfully recieved. The sim card survivied, and I 'd rather poke my eyes out with a blunt stick than send any more money Optus' way.

do that all the time. its pretty fun, except when you miss the bar and its heading strait for the trees, rocks, etc
