*Fine i will reword it for all you sensitive people

from time to time when beach users pass you by they make some funny comments

u get dumb questions like
-what sort of sail is that
-what is that called
-how much does it cost
-how does it work

Post the dumbest questions you have been asked.

1. so is that some sort of kite?????
2. do you get wet?
3. is it fun?- (not how fun is it)
4. can you do it when there's no wind?

you have to ponder these peoples intelligence as they obviously haven't thought about what they are saying beforehand.

I love swimmers, and I look out for them.

Tangling with a swimmer will be much worse for you than any sharkie experience.

Agreed .It's important to remember that despite the stupid questions, swimmers in the way, poleboarders trudging around in 12-15 kts and clogging up the best wave ,we are a minority with big things that can inconvenience or hurt others and that we MUST be mindful to be on our best behaviour,be co operative and put our big egos aside.

Well Done SM

Instead of helping people to understand our sport you bring them down and treat them with disrespect. The more they know the happier they are to see it down at their local beach. Remember these are the people that can get us banned. Wake up to yourself,

I'm with the rest of you glad he's not over here!!!!

compared to what most people go on about in here, these "idiots" sound like einstein to me. how can anyone get so upset about someone taking an interest in what ur doing? even if they are stupid questions just answer them..ive seen plenty of people get a buzz when u tell them a bit about what we are doing.

who knows...a bit of good pr might stop your favourite spot being the next closed to kiting...but if it is closed we dont want u kiting with us if you've got such an attitude!

As far as rules of the 'road' are concerned, swimmers are the top dogs, then the paddle, then the sail (kiters have to give way to every other sail due to our upwind ability and agility). And fianlly, anything with a motor has to give way to a sail, and everything else (except in a dedicated shipping lane). That said, I wouldn't hang around infront of a tanker as they can take up to 3km to turn and four times that to stop.

Let us not forget that SM was born kitesurfing - Unlike us, he never went through the wonder and fascination of seeing it all for the first time, let alone make any mistakes or ask dumbass questions. Long live the king.

im not one of those people dropping my kite into people, dragging through picnics and clotheslining poleboarders.

i know swimmers were there first but they deliberately swim where ever we kite.

WE HAD A SWIMMER SWIM THROUGH THE ZONE IN OUR STATES

im just voicing my frustration about some stupid members of the public that deliberatley pt them selves at risk.

Its like standing in the middle of the road, ur not gonna be hit, ppl will stop for u but u piss off every car.

I think ur all over reacting and u guys obviously either dont kite on a metropolitan beach or don't do tricks.

and for the record i have never been rude to the public, i keep my annoyance in my head.

back to the main point of this thread do ppl hear this very often...

"I'll bet thats hard work"

I can appreciate what your saying but from the publics point of view they really dont know *hit generally and its up to us to be considerate. One thing that does piss me off though is jet 'bikers' racing back and forth close to the beach and through an obviously busy kiting area. (pelican point last wknd)

here's on e i got the other day.

" you're gonna take off today aren't you ?"

and reply...

"er yeah, i hope so"

i don't mind others on the beach as i know that i take more than my fair share but the dogs that chase kites shouldn't be taken to the main kiting beaches, I'm always worried that one will decide to taste my leading edge.

OH yeah how can i forget about dogs.

2 white small fluffy dogs always come down the beach when were kiting.

there the type of dogs u see on the "CHUM" ads u know the scottish ones.

anyway the owner has no control an the dogs will chase the kites for ages whilst barking (more like high pitched yapping) constantly, now im talking a bark a second.

Often the owner is like a kilometer down the beach as the dogs run away from him to chase our kites and run up to us in the water or while walking upwind.

what the hell is with swimmers they pratically see kiteboarders and go swim ammongst them and clog up the zone making doing tricks impossible.

It's good that you keep your frustration in your head .I understand your frustration as I'm sure others do too.that still doesn't change what i suggested before.
I do kite at a metro beach and do do tricks, right in the middle of our city. The flags are down one end of the beach but that does not stop people from swimming right where we are kiting.fortunately most people have the commonsense to swim in the flags and stay away from where kiters and polers are riding.I have suggested to one guy once in all the traffic that maybe swimming in the flags might be a safer option.

We don't have flags :(

Another good point about launching
u walk back ready to be launched and as ur lines start going taught dogs playing chasey run towards the lines almost clotheslining themselves all the time.

or the people that see u launchng and continue walking until they see the lines taught then they grab the lines and carefully squeeze between them

that is so dangerous, the public have no idea.

or the people who think it is their duty when u fall off ur board to swim over to it and return it for u, thanks but no thanks.

people swimming in the zone is like people having a picnic in the middle of a half pipe. swimmers have the right to be there tho unfortunately, just annoying when they seemingly do it on purpose.

I was waiting for the wind one day and my kite was on the beach. Thid old couple came and asked me ,

" Hello young man, do you hire these sun shades out and how much for a half a day".

Should of said " yeh $50 till the wind comes up.
