In the Airush range, the Flow, DNA and Halo all flutter down into the water if you let go of the bar which does really give a true 100% depower. It can be a pain in the arse if you inadvertantly let go of the bar and are not using the stopper system.

The QR chicken loop is excellent and super easy to use.

Another tip: when I am being launched by someone that is dodgy with handling my kite... I unhook and hold the chicken loop (I DONT LET GO UNLESS I SEE IT GOING PEAR SHAPE) and obviously sheeted out with the bar for the depower - this is ok on my rebel and fifth line setup... wouldn’t use it on a kite that doesn’t have high depowered... been spanked once by someone that launched my kite too hot (they just let go - woops!) Learnt this is a safer method sometimes. Probably not the ideal way to launch for anyone still coming to grips with kite handling skills though.

I think the qr systems that are, simplistic, metal on metal mechanisms, centrally located above the chicken loop and have to push away from you - are the best... being left handed the kite bars that have the qr on one side need to be twisted to be on my natural favored side or just doesn’t feel natural to grasp. Push away release is better than push towards incase of accidental releasing and metal on metal always holds its shape unlike metal on fiber.

I think kite companies should take a leaf out of cabrinha’s qr system. Has all the features as above. I ride north kites even though its has the same features as cabrinha’s it’s a little bit overcomplicated and few other issues that have come up with it. (see kiteforum)

My views on left handed bars is the same as the view using the rear view mirror, since creating both - I have never looked back

I'm a big fan of a nose line that goes through the bar you can attatch your safety to.

Unfortunetly in the end of the day safety is in the hands of the user more than the kite it's self.
