I have an 05 12m C02 and I am using the stock Recon 2 bar, I find it to be very handy to have the tap-out feature when on land to avoid any hairy situations + there is no annoying button to push or velcro to pull, you just push the bar away..

Im after some comments from people who ride Recon about how they find it...

Also, are most people just using the system in the normal configuration or adding the bypass leash and connecting a leash to their harness?

Also, is it possible to activate recon as a method of landing your kite unassisted? If so, what is the best way to retrive it once landed?

And, using the quick connect method to loop the quick release pin through the depower lines and back into the quick connect ring seems like an unstable way to get back to shore to reset recon, does anyone use the quick connect method after activating recon?

Phew, that is all Cheers

If you dont know how recon 2 works, check here...

I had the recon2 setup last year and I like the tapout feature, but be careful to set it to ride mode once you are out on the water it can release quite easily even in minor crashes. I didn't really try the quick connect method though I thought it migh work if didn't crash or need to release again, though after engaing the release the lines will not always stay untangled for this to work so be careful.

I have the recon 2 on my 10m 05 Cab Element, and I've found the recon relaunch ability to be a real advantage; no more pulling, swimming towards the kite, and trying 2 relaunch; all you do is pull the stopper, it goes over, you slowly relsease, and hey presto You're back up going!

I always leave the tap-out on ride, even though it states to place it on launch, because a few kiters here have launched on 'launch, and forgotton to change it when riding, and had to come in and fully re-set it because it tapped out! If you just keep it on 'ride' it acts as a normal bar, and u can always use quick release then...

With the bypass leash... I have a cab one attatched to the front of my harness and hooked onto one of my back lines, which I always hook into (because it's my safety) when I launch... I have a slingy surefire bungee due in a few days, so I can have a proper suicide set up which is sweet

Good luck with your cab mate... It's a great kite to ride [}:)]

just started using a recon 2 system on my cabrinha kite, i leave it in ride mode as i loathe the effort in resetting it for a false safety deployment, i have a donkey dick on my harness that i chuck in in addition to the standard one.. guess i can't punch out in that case though hmmm.

have had to relaunch a couple of times, seems fairly easy though i'm still getting the hang of it.

will consider getting a leash in the future. ohh and thanks for the instruction film, i'm downloading it now to get a better idea than the picture description i've seen.

Hey Guys, thanks for all the great responses!

Also, landing unassisted + how to track back to the kite safely on land? I’m not sure if its possible or advisable, just wondering :).

I know that launching and landing are some of the most dangerous things about kiting and I want to hear some techniques to minimise risk.. I also find that self landing a 4 line kite at the top end of a kites wind range is pretty hit and miss..

Any feedback on that one?

Cheers

Hey can you guys post a picture of how you are and where you are attaching you leaches.
I use the recon on my Contra and wanted to have a safety leash besides the Recon leash!

Cheers

I had a Cab bypass leash, but have now moved up to a Cab Bungee which I'm using as my suicide. I have mine attatched to the back of my harness, or some prefer it to the front, and it hooks onto the 'D loop' just above the chicken loop and quick release...

That's how I used to set up my bypass, and how I currently set up my bungee... All the best mate

I heard you never need to land a cabrinha - cause you are always swimming them in...

I had the recon 1 system brake and the copper/brass clip on the bypass leash snap in half at the same time the other day . Had to get a nice guy in a boat to go rescue my kite . Luckily i was in the river at the time and not in the sea .
i have now changed the clip to a stainless shackle and clip cost about $6 at the boat shop . If the clip on your leash is not stainless i advise you to change it .

carton of Coronna for guy in boat $55
Stainless steel shackle /clip $ 6
Back kiteing the next day PRICELESS
