Lately there's been a bunch of threads about selfaunch tools.... I can't get my head around why you would need one... What happens when you drop your kite in the ocean? Do you not relaunch it? Is that session over? if you can re launch, then you can self launch without bringing lethal weapons to the beach....if you can't re/self launch, then why not just learn and save your money for beer... And corn chips.....

I self launch, tether launch and get a kite launcher depending on the circumstances, who is around on the beach and what the beach conditions are like at the time. There's nothing wrong with keeping your options open.

Getting stuck in your ways is how muppets ending up self launching and getting dragged through a beach full of kids.

I don’t use one myself but I personally don’t care if somebody wants to as long as it’s done safely- like everything. People have commented on these things becoming fling objects but has anybody actually seen one dislodge from the sand and I’m not talking about a star picket or a tent peg I’m specifically talking about the one in the other current posting. I could be wrong but I can’t imagine that actual one dislodging in conditions that are able to be kited in.

i had something like the pic in other tread . big cork screw but I made the handel removable so it was dug down deeper than sand level (dug a bit out)and then remove handle than attach carabina to it . safe no one could trip over and was near impossible to get it stolen . At 1 stage I had 2 kites hanging of it . Unsafe no not one bit . Lets look at it . The kite is set up on the edge of the wind window how much power is in the kite there full depowered and just bobing up and down the only problem if you get a big lul the kite would just fall down but if the wind pick up can and will blow kite back into the window NOT safe there . Lets face it I think it is the safest way to lauch and land a kite . But NOT for going and having a beer while it is attached .

Nah, the safest way to launch and land is with an assisted launch/land - assuming a competent assistant.

A big cork screw, LOL - that about sums it up

I once saw a french girl trying to use her kiteboard as a device to self launch, by hooking into the handle and holding the board with clumps of sand.

that is, she was trying to hook her kite (powered up, at edge of window) to her board, which was dug into the sand with one edge and held on the other side by more sand.

luckily it was only about 12kts. I advised her anything over 15kts and it would be a disaster....
