We are planning a trip to Fiji, need to keep the gang happy with resort style accomm, pools, bars, restaurants, kids activities, snorkelling etc. Need to keep me happy with sonme great kitesurfing.

I got a tip that Shangri-La's Fijian Resort is a good spot on a nice big lagoon with wind. Shangri-La's Fijian Resort and Spa is located on Yanuca Island, which is connected via a short causeway to Viti Levu, one of the two main islands of Fiji.

Can anyone shed any light if this is the place to kitesurf?

I stayed at the Fijian for 2 weeks last July. The resort was pretty good, nice layout, plenty of restaurants and plenty of non kiting activities (games room, tours, tennis, nice golf course, snorkelling, diving). The food was pretty ordinary though but this is to be expected I guess in a large resort (lots of fried food and small expensive meals).

The lagoon looks good in theory and I tried to kite it a couple of times, but the wind was really gusty. I think this was because the SE trades come over the top of the island before they hit the logoon. Wind was marginal at times too though so that didn't help.

Best bet we found was a place about 15 minutes down the road before you get to the nearest town (sorry can't remember the name). Big lagoon with shallow water and a beach break around the corner. Very tidal though with coral just below the waters surface so you have to time it but it was great when it was on. Think the locals call it the picnic spot so that would be enough to get a cab to take you there I would have thought. I found out about this one from a guy that I ran into that kited and lived in Fiji. He said it is one of the best spots along the coral coast.
