Hey

Don't kite little lagoon. We did it for a couple of hours, walking around in the shallows, playing rugy, huge gusts, only to find out that it is a haven for stone fish.

There are no waves unless you venture out to steep point (I think that's the name).

Heaps of sharks but are fairly small. A fair few stingrays around too.

We kited a couple of spots although I have heard the best spot is shell beach.

You'll have a good time...one awesome place if you're into flat water!

Cheers
Dan

There are a few guys who frequent this forum who would know more than me including one who used to live there. OOOOhhhhh Luuurch

as long as the tide isn't too high, Nanga bay is worth a shot, you can camp walking distance from the beach, the water looks nicer and the launch area is bigger-safer than the denham launch, plus the campsite has a pool, spa, fire every night and a great roast on sunday. Shell beach is just up the road aswell, which in an offshore wind is insane, aslong as your good. (shallow water = kinda safeish but you might lose you kite if the proverbial hits the fan).

Your biggest issue is stonefish and stingrays, mostly stonefish tho. speak to the tourist beaureu.

Have fun and don't kite either of the lagoons.

Most kiting done over on the Denham side when a SW'er is blowing (prevailing wind direction). Usual launch is across the road from the backpackers. Monkey Mia kitable on a SE-E-NE but can be tide dependant. Very good downwinder opportunities from Eagle Bluff back to Denham (approx 25km).

It's all flat water! Stonefish in Little Lagoon, razor calms/shells in the bay. Booties maybe a good idea!

Not called Shark Bay for nothing?

Carnarvon. Gnarloo for hard core wave action. Exmouth for all round free riding in waves and flat water.

The wind seems to start around Sept, and blows til around now.

Went to the bay a couple of years ago in October for ten days, every day blew from morning to the next morning,

its an awesome place, flat shallow water everywhere, the whole place overflowing with nature stingrays, lots of reef sharks, dugongs, turtles, snakes, razor fish, stone fish, and a lonley croc in the big lagoon (or so the legend goes)

Do the eagle bluff to denham downwinder its the most amazing trip.........ahhhh shark bay.....

Lurchie.....oooooooo lurchie....... someone needs help.......

PR, one last question & I promise to leave you alone...

I fly a PL Venom 13...only got the one kite. How strong are the winds up there early October? Am I likely to be overpowered on a 13???

ok, that was two questions. I lied. Sorry.

I guess being accurate is difficult. When i went i was on a 12. The week i was there i used a 7, 9 and a 12. Mostly on a 12

However when it blows it bloody blows. 13 would probably be a good choice but if you can take a smaller kite do it.

Friends went the following week and were on 17's!!

Best bet is check the wind roses on the BOM site, for the period you plan to go and play by law of averages.
Good luck....

Aloha all
Its been a while since I last checked in. Apologies to Juddy, hopefully I can answer a few questions comin' at me.
The Bay, what more can I say, flat water paradise right next to my house. 20-25 kts of wind from Sept to April, just gotta check the tides so theres enough water to kite on.
I've been in Exmouth for the past year but have been checking in to the Bay pretty regularly.
September to April: bring a range of kites, anything from a 7 to a 12. One day will be 35 kts the next will be 20. Early in the season you don't want anything bigger than a 10, if you go bigger we pray for you and if you survive its your shout at the Hero (pub).
The downwinders are awesome, Eagle Bluff back to Denham will take you about 2 hours, if you enjoy seeing sharks and associated wildlife while travelling at 30 kts this your gig.
Winter gets cold, 'bout 14c in the Eastern Gulf (Monkey Mia)but the se hammers up in the morning and drops off by 10am. Good for the early and then brunch at the restaurant.
I miss the Bay sooo much cos its so easy to kite every day.
If your heading north be prepared.
Gnaraloo is good but only if your an experienced kiter in waves. The Euro's on poles think they run the show (don't put up with their ****) and the owner is more than happy to take $16 a day for your company (just look out for the sheep in the dunny's).
Exmouth this season has been rockin', good wind and waves, plenty of tiger sharks to keep things interesing and the local gang have a couple of joy spots that need to be kept quiet.
Hope this answers a few questions.
Miss you all and look forward to you pasty Perth buggers getting back up here for a season of joy.
Love to all

are there any flat spots with no **** on bottom and no sharks? good for unhooked freestyle riding (e.g. In the water as much as on the water).

SE in the mornings then switch to Southerly or SW in the afternoons,,, very light friday sat 12m n 14m Kites, surfboard would have been nice to eleviate the suffering of just not enuf knotage
( please note there is NO SURF up there, its purely flatwater ) then when it kicks in IT BLOWS !! 9m n possibly smaller for us little people

So we had two extremely light days and one full day of strong wind and a naughty head wind all the way home, which totally confused my cars petrol gauge

You know It was just such a beautiful place that no wind wasnt such a big drama, really nice just to be there, HAVE FUN
