Hi all
I had one solo session at Waddy Point 4 years ago but haven't heard about anyone else's experiences.While I was there I heard all the rumours but didn't see any schools of sharks.Even saw a few guys surfing small sets at Waddies. Is the place rotten with sharks? Are they tigers? Is the east side worse than west? Is it a seasonal thing?
Any local knowledge would be great..........Thanks

I grew up on the sunny coast but spent lots of time on fraser as a teenager,I have surfed at Catus on south OZ and kited on the west coast of Africa but I would kite at waddy pt I would not surf there and I WOULD NOT DROP MY KITE OR BRAKE A LINE THERE just my opnion

Don't go in the water, the island is home to the sharks, fraser is close to the deep water off the east coast and it a feeding place for some pretty big sharks aswell.

might do a down winder from rainbow beach to noosa if possible,

If you really want to kite, then I don't see how the sharkies can get in the way...just don't fall in! and don't be mean to the little buggers.

Fraser and Moreton are two places i would never go in the water... good places for watching sharks in the surf.

I fly for a living and quite often fly over the east and west sides of the island. We have seen tigers well in excess of 5 metres cruising the coast, and quite regularly to boot. The place is rife with the bastards particularly to the north. The east side has mostly tigers the west side has bull sharks and a few other less aggressive species, both bull and tigers are as bad as each other. If your going in I recommend you avoid lathing yourself with burley whilst spearfing with your dog. If you must go in you can get sharkleashes for about 400 bucks. And yes they do work, ive seen footage where its strapped around sliced up tuna and the shark freaks out when it goes near it.

That said, I see tones of tigers here in the sunny coast, quite often within metres when spearing and surfing. When there is plenty of food and good vis they arent real keen on you so dont be getting too paranoid. If you are going in in fraser do on the cusp of high tide when the water is at its cleanest.
