2 news items today on the ABC news website and a whole page in yesterdays Sun herald about the 'terror' that sharks have unleashed .

Meanwhile more people were killed on the roads and in war yesterday than the 'terror ' sharks do in a decade and no one really noticed

Dont you wonder though if as many people that drive all jumped into the water, the number of attacks would go up and maybe pass the road toll. I know unlikely but I think the way those stats are quoted has some flaws.

The other day sharks "STALKED" city beaches around Oz.
(According to the local paper)

I've got more issue with the way it gets reported.
Cheers

It's obvious isn't it, the sharks have had enough! They have declared war on humanity and won't stop until they have wiped us from the face of the planet. Our only option is to exterminate them first. Together with the other deadly marine organisms, stonefish, irukandji jellyfish and the blue ringed octopus they form an axis of evil, so I call on you, people of the civilised world, to hunt and kill them to extinction, pollute their habitat, cut off their fins and dump them still alive to die on the sea floor, in the name of Freedom, Truth, Justice, God, Beauty, Fish'n'chips, for our childrens children, we need more blokes like the guy next door who shoots em with a 303 when he's out fishin', it's us or them people.....

It's tempting fate I know but ... do you reckon the guy that got bit on the bum by the shark will use it as a pickup line? "Hey babe. Wanna see my shark bite ... up close?"

Third shark attack today within two days. Does anybody know if those shark shield people have shares listed that I can buy?

Great idea Tobes.
But I reckon turn them all into cat food so the price would drop so low that we could all afford to have a beautiful furry little friend - or even 6.

Perfect, and all those puss!es would help wipe out that other scourge threatening our nation, those bloody little marsupials with their cute big eyes and fluffy tails and pouches, spreading disease and getting up to who knows what skulking around in the darkness like little furry terrorists...

Tell all those people who want to come here that because of global warming and too much fishing the sharks have come to shore to discover humans...they don't taste good yet, but soon enough they'll be so hungry that they eat anything!

Our beaches are becoming shark infested and dangerous.

Aside: and because of declining tourist numbers our **** for brains polies are going to bail out the tourist industry with cash to Aussies taking holidays at home..............what is this world coming to?

Not sure I'd want to after their last testing of the new surfboard Shark Shield ended in epic failure as a large female Great White shark attacked the board and ate the shark shield.

Shark Shield experiences epic fail, gets chomped by great white in test
by Darren Murph, posted Mar 4th 2008 at 6:07PM

As we're certain you know by now, there are fails, and then there are epic fails. This case most definitely falls into the latter category, as Sea Change's shark-deterrent system (affectionately dubbed Shark Shield) was actually bit into by a great white when tested off the coast of South Africa. Reportedly, the device sends out electronic fields that are meant to deter sharks from coming near surfers, but according to the company's CEO, the botched trial was "due to a problem with the electrode's configuration." Furthermore, he noted that the thing is only "guaranteed to work when it's stationary, not when it's surfing in the wave or paddling." Needless to say, the effectiveness of these type devices have now been called into question, and regardless of whether this thing actually works as advertised, the lack of total protection -- you know, while actually surfing -- is enough to make us steer clear.

For $750 you'd actually hope this thing would work. None of the guys in our dive club use one as most think they actually attract sharks which come to see what the electrical disturbance is.

Bugger!

Good winds,

My dad had a mosquito repeller high frequency thingy back in the 80's. Was marvellous to watch him getting eaten alive while the rest of the party enjoyed an insect-free night.

I just rememebered that last week I came through a school of hammerheads .I saw a number of them all around 3-4 ft .I think those guys are always around there tho just haven't seen any for a while .it would be interesting to know if sharks behave differently at different times of the year

An English newspaper reports shark attacks this week and gives following advice :

If you meet a shark ...
• If you are in the water, remain calm. You cannot outrun a shark and sharks can sense fear

• Keep your eye on the shark at all times. Sharks may retreat temporarily and then try to sneak up on you

• If you can't get out of the water right away, try to reduce the shark's possible angles of attack

• Fight. Playing dead doesn't work. A hard blow to the shark's gills, eyes, or, as a last resort, to the tip of its nose will cause the shark to retreat. If a shark continues to attack, or if it has you in its mouth, hit these areas repeatedly with hard jabs, and claw at the eyes and gills

• If you are near shore, swim quickly, but smoothly. Thrashing will attract the shark's attention

• Sharks have difficulty biting things that are vertical (their nose gets in the way) so avoid leaving your hands and feet loose or going horizontal to swim away from the shark

• Sharks can't breathe out of water, so, if possible, hold the bitten part of your body out of the water, and get their gills into the air and they will let go of you

• Sharks tend to thrash prey around to tear chunks out of it, so you should latch on to the shark

• Repress the urge to scream. Screaming will not deter the shark much and may provoke it further.

Great tips there, remember this next time you "meet" one, especially if you are "in the water" as per tip number 1 !!!!! Classic
