It appears that all topics regarding a persons opinions on service provided by the kite industry are locked, so why not have a free for all section on seabreeze to allow people to voice their opinions. I know you will get the usual pimps and bitches trying to do their thing, but this also happens in the kite/board review sections, but it is easy to read between the lines. Most other industries are open to criticism/praise so why not the kite industry too? This would be a very useful section for newbies and people travelling to new locations.

^^^^^Because it's prone to defamation and slander. As Laurie said in his last post about his mate with the eye surgery. Many topics have been on seabreeze about a shop or agent who went out of their way to get someone on the water and they havent been locked. I know in many cases a shop that has been hamstrung by the agent or importer in regards to warranty claims, and it is the shop that cops the S@"!. Many agents or importers in Australia are also hamstrung by the international manufacturers, as Australia is not a big deal compared to the US or Euro market. If you have a good relationship with the shop and you are unhappy, you can always contact someone higher up, and shop owners are usually more than happy to give you thier info. If you are then not happy, change brands, not necessarily shops.

Retail companies employ mystery shoppers to go into their own stores to make sure their customer service levels are above par, maybe we should have that in the kite industry.....

So giving advice on a kite is o.k. but giving advice on a shop is boring and crap? Are you a shop owner Dave or just too narrow minded to understand reviews can do brands good as well as bad? Personally, I think businesses that are open to scrutiny are progressive and why shouldn't you always get the best service possible when spending thousands of your hard earned cash in a store?

no opinion on this debate, but you can always voice your opinion on google maps when reviewing the place. A trend of reviews help distinguish the good from the bad.

Just an option

This opens up the prospect of trolling either negative or positive. Creates Sh1t fights, and most of the time does little to actually help the newbie. Free flow of Information needs to have some rules set in place due to the ugly side of human nature we all possess.

I have a possible solution though. If you want to enquire about a certain store/owner set up a thread asking for people to PM you in private. If anyone abuses this by banging on in open space, laurie can warn them, lock it out or kick em off.

One possible way to get some opinions without catalysing unproductive BS.

I always go through a certain shop in Perth, so if anyone wants to know who they are and why, please feel free to PM me.

Spot on Eppo . we've all been though it a few times, which is why we have the policy.

www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Help/ForumRules.aspx#h40

Here it is:

Complaints about a business/associations

When this occurs, the poster is usually quite fired up and emotional. Often the customer is now out to cause as much damage as possible to the business with the mission that they are "fully justified" (their words) and "simply stating facts" (their words) about the business/association.

This may be the case .. or not. There are many sides to any story. The point is that the Seabreeze forums are not the appropriate place to resolve the issue. Work it out with the business, or go to the appropriate legal/government authority and do it there.

As soon as you flame a business, you'll usually get supporters of the business come out in defence and question your behaviour and motives. People interested in the discussion will seek more information from you. It soon descends into an argument containing many and varied versions of the truth and everybody goes home unhappy.

It has never ended well for anybody.

The business is damaged, the poster now has a stigma in the forum community (and now can't deal with many shops because the shops know what will happen if they cross this customer - their business will get dragged through the mud.)

And there's also the situation when the poster does not really have a complaint, but is simply a competitor or naive associate of a business who thinks the way to get more business is to degrade the competition.

This applies (and has been applied) to any business, not just businesses that sponsor the site.
