Hello All

My wife and I have just gotten into kiteboarding. Last week I order 2009 12m LF session kite, LF comp harness, LF Recoil board and a LF aura harness for my wife. Our Plan was to take turns when we go out for now until we can afford more equipment.

Yesterday I was looking in the local classified and found some Naish equipment for sail. The equipment consisted of AT-X 23.5m, 15.5m, 11.5m, kites with the lines and bars and a 5 ft Naish board $1000.

My question is (equipment is in good condition) should I buy the used equipment or take the $1000 and put it towards buying more new equipment.

I have a good idea I what to do. I just want more opinions before I decide.

I think that's a misprint, it should probably read "ARX", not "AT-X"

That kite package is totally unsuitable in this day and age, those kites are 7-8 years old and will kill the unwary. You'll have a much better experience on newer kites.

Anyway, buying second hand is good idea but be very careful. Try and buy recent second hand, last seasons' kites preferably.

I wouldn't buy any second hand gear that older than 2007 and anything thats damaged or been repaired, there is so much stuff out there... why risk it.
Most x demos are ok.

Allthough i only buy new now, as iv seen some shockers getting around.

If you can afford to buy new buy new.

If its your first kite then second hand is adequate.
Make sure its post 07 if you can. The later model the better

Lots of shops carry a good second hand range, check out Windsurfing Perth in Myaree, SOS in Freo or Airbourne in OsbournePark if you are in WA.

Alternatively get a mate who has been around for a while to have a scan over any prospective Quokka buys.

newbe - agree with all the above - you will get punished big time on this gear - besides, if you are thinking that you are getting three kites for a good price, think again - that 23.5m kite is a monster - you will never use it, except out of curiosity! Most east coasters are using a 12m as their common workhorse.

You could probably pick up a second hand 2007 12m kite and suitable board for about $800.

If you buy second hand/ x-demo from a reputable/ local dealer you get the backing support and advice with it, as apposed to buying off the net as a newbie not knowing what your getting Eg ARX that you are looking at - not good.
If you make a mistake in the early stages of learning and damage a new kite, not cool. Make a mistake on a second hand kite - not so bad.
Just a suggestion second hand first and once you have mastered the skill - upgrade to new.

So true had me Laughing, you can just imagine he buys it, it sits there for a few years almost forgotten about then one day ......hmmm I have never inflated that kite lets give it a go.....
