oops, there i was thinking we were kiteboarders....forgot we are supposed to be wakeboarding

not taking anything away from the vid, he is a sick rider and some of the stuff off the kickers are insane like the grabbed mobe 5's, but there is no point in us trying to be wakeboarders when we have a sport that can offer so much more

how dare people try and combine the 2.bring back the one footed transitions. How dare they try and make us hit sliders.

Burn the kickers.stop the mobes.BRING back massive poo men.Next thing people will be wake skating.

wakeboarding?

I didn't see a wake.

Cable danglers. Not as low as a boat.

Let's see them try that in some wind chop.

You guys really are insecure about kiting aren't you?

i didnt say not to do wakeboard style tricks, thats a big part of our sport, i actually really enjoy that side of the sport, but many people want to turn the sport into wakeboarding.

I was initially put off by the arrogant "watch and learn" tag but I watched it anyway and I'm pleased I did. I don't know squat about cable but that was the best cable vid I've seen yet and I do see how kiters can learn from it.

Tom's ability (and strength) to keep the handle low means he can tweak his rotations very nicely because the line of the cable's pull is close to his centre of gravity. For the antithesis of this, see Kevin Langaree, whose rotations lack style and variability because his bar is either above his head or is only low when his lines are slack and at those times there's no pull to use to tweak the rotation. (Low bar is of course different to low kite.)

I have no aspirations to ride cable or even kite with boots but I can see how the cable/wake moves are relevant to the inspiration and aesthetic of kite moves.

For those kiters who find this all irrelevant, just ride how you want, but there's no doubt in my mind that riding that looks stylish also feels great. If you want to ride for the feeling you get, work on your style, and the feeling that comes with improved timing, fluidity and power will be worth the effort.

Even if all you do is mow the lawn and do slide transitions, they can be done with flair or like a hack. I'll extend PsYLor's suggestion:

Watch and learn, not because you should aspire to these moves, or because kiters have to ride like cable guys, but because you can benefit from incorporating this sort of style into whatever you do on a kiteboard.

@Ewan: hmm yeah but from a noob's perspective, isn't especially that slider stuff and everything that involves just board pop and no kite sending or dangling from a kite essentially wakeboarding?
Not saying that it's bad, if people want to save the environment and get towed behind a kite rather than a boat that's cool with me!

havent seen much wakeboarding in wind chop.thats why it goes so well with kiting.

And cable i have ridden is usualy hidden from windchop.Or it works well with kiting.

so you do a bit of wind chop wakeboarding Big dave?you must be the man.

haha cable is some weird sh1t...
I can kite for 5 hours without really getting tired, but after 1 minute of wakeboarding my legs are shaking all over the place and I am exhausted for the day.
I reckon there is some trick to it that I must be missing..

ye, thats cool with me too, there is nothing wrong with people doing it, its cheaper and ye better for the environment, and yea all the board pop stuff is essentially wakeboarding with less style and risk, but there is no reason for people to dis all other aspects of the sport and just focus on the wake aspect

yeah i dis all the other aspects.but riding a slider, hiting a kicker aint exactly wakeboarding.more board riding.Which has a lot to do with kiting.

Same with mobes and handle passes.I look at it being more board riding in general. The only things i would be dissing is **** that looks gay.Like board offs and hooked in **** that is so easy......

Do it 3 times a week for an hour or two per session and that feeling eventually goes away.

Cool, but how does that bloke steer the kite with only one very long line? And he is so close the power wires too!
