Steve,
What's the target rider for this kite?
I always thought of the REV (I and II) as a wave kite and that is now a discontinued kite-and it doesn't seem to me there's a Slingy that fits the bill?
Matts out testing the kite now, hopefully he gets a bit more wind before the Southerly tomorrow. Troy 2868 is picking up the kite from Matt tonight and hoping to get in an early session tomorrow morning in the Southerly at Wanda.
Rev as a name is gone, however when we pumped the kites up back to back they are quite similar in AR. The Octane is a much more upright kite though and this tends to give a kite a shorter and more sensitive depower throw. The bridle is short and minimised like the Rev2, I really think the Octane is aimed at the Rev2 upgrade rider who wants an even better kite for waves and freestyle.
The kite looks awesome and I'm fairly positive that SS have done a heap of R&D to make sure that the kite will suit its loyal Rev owners, the fact that Ben has chosen it as his power source is a good indicator that it unhooks fine and is the choice from SS for waveriders and freestylers alike.
The new bar is a huge improvement, well the c-loop and swivel are, the bar itself is very similar to the Rev2 bar, except for the centre hole and flanges.
Cya and
Goodwinds
