Ummmm, that was really horrible snapper....No qualms about the quality of surfing and filming/editing but that was definately not the day of the year... Entertaining all the same, pure snapper carnage at its back washy, below sea level drainage horribleness... Bravo....

Great clip
Nothing like a quiet soulful surf with 100 of your closest mates.

After a great Surf at Burleigh a couple of days before, we surfed Snapper on the Saturday a couple of weeks ago. It looked like it was pumping from the carpark, the tide was coming in and the swell was supposed to be on the rise and it should of been all time.

Got out there and paddles straight into a nice one but got bumped off on my second turn by some wild backwash.

Then i spent the next hour trying to get another wave, with the other 300 or so sufers out there, the tide came in so much that it pretty much stopped breaking and even trying to drift down to Kirra could not get in the right spot at the right time.

Very frustrating.

Luckily i had a call from Moti, who asked Duncan and me to go kiting south of the border, went down there to be greeted by 6 foot solid beachbreaks, 20 knts of crossshore and absolutely no one out.

We had a fantastic seshion that was not for the faint hearted, it was so full on that a mistake in the impact zone could of been with big consequenses.

Managed to get throught with some nice down the line right handers,

After experiancing Snapper with the hoards, and then the soulfulness of the second seshion, i am just so glad that i had kiting as a option.

Let's hope it stays this way, and kiting never goes main stream.

i think we all definatly hope so aswell, and i think we have 2 factors working in our favour; 1) kiting is not cheap to get into intially and 2) it takes a little determination to get to a rewarding skill level.
i think it can be guaranteed to become mainstream eventually but i also think it'll most likely not happen in our lifetimes. (to the "snapper" level anyways.)

yes citys to scabs is busy in the summer but honestly imagine if u had to wait your turn just to launch.

jus my 2 cents.
