I would love some advise from anyone who has stayed there!

I'll be taking a boat to surf (and hopefully kite) at Cloudbreak, Namotu, etc, but there will be a few days where I will be stuck at the Sonaisali resort with the wife and kid.

Does anyone know if i can kite from the resort?
(Just wondering if i should bother taking a twin tip.)

I got married there about 4 years ago in July. I took my gear so the wind didn't blow for 11 days, but that doesn't matter because the resort is on the West side of the main island of Viti Levu.

Prevailing wind is SE so the main beach of the resort is pretty much in the lee all the time. It might be possible to go off the south end of the island if the wind is southerly enough and get a bit of cross-off. Probably be a bit gusty, but hey! Like I said we had no wind at all, but I kept looking at the setup.

There is a pretty cool sandbar out at Malolo or Plantation---one of the islands straight out from the resort. The resort boats can take you out in the afternoon for a sesh. You can also try Sigatoka rivermouth which I hear works really well--that is on the south coast. Tricky corally launches are the norm from what I understand.

You might get lucky and get a southerly (which might work) or something from the west which would definetely work, but it is highly unlikely you will get to step off the beach and get a decent kite.

Otherwise, it is a nice spot to be stuck with the wife and kid. The staff are fantastic and the food is endless. And the Isa Lei (farewell song) will bring a tear to your eye. Enjoy Fiji!
