Summer tends to be a killer on the eyes. Any thoughts on eye wear out there. For those who ride with glasses, how do you find them???? I noticed that Oakly have some and blue eyes. Any recommendations??? Thanks, Tony

Tony

My Oakley's are the best bit of kiting kit I have ever owned. They are $$ but mine are into the 3rd season and they are still going strong. If I lose em tomorrow, would repurch straight away.

Also the only ones I haven't heard any complaints about.

I can't kite without them (some would say that I can't kite with them but hey are just being nasty).

Thanks slack and wal, your info good. One question to you wal, does the water tend to run off the lens and if the water dries on the lens, do you end up with salt all over!!!

Oakleys come with a lens liquid soln that assists runoff. If you apply it works really well for a couple of sessions.

If you are too lazy then obvioulsy doesn't work as well.

If you crash heaps the drenching washes any salt build up, so it manily if you only crash once that it might get noticeable. Then all you got to do is crash again. :) I find kite loops great for this.

I take the lazy approach and rend to apply only once per month.

Surf shops also sell replacement soln separately for $20. I have been through 2 bottles in 3.5 years.

Hi Tony,

We stock and sell SeaSpecs in our truck and trailer at Pinnaroo. Follow this link for a look. kiteboardingschool.com.au/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=22&Itemid=84

Come and see us and try a pair on to see if they feel good. The quality is excellent as are the lenses.

They are pretty much the same as Oakleys, just a quarter of the price. The solution to put on the lenses is the same as Rain-X.

Good winds,

hi there i`ve tried lots of sunnies but the best pair has been a cheep pair of work glasses i purchaced from kenards hire for $10. they are to australian uv standards super light. i drilled out 2mm holes around the lens on each side and attached an adjustable elastic strap. i also spay them with windex every couple of sesions and they never fog up and the salt build up is nearly non exsistant.
hope this helps.

Hi Tony I use the Oakley water jackets and they have been really good for the past 6 months, tough as nails and the solution which is the same as rainex seems to work well.

My only issue is that the inside of the lens will fog if its a warm day and end up with a coating of suncream on it, seems to be teh evaporation of the sweat on your face mixed with suncream that ends up on them.

I kited a few times recently without them and couldnt do it - amazing what you get used too, certainly no sore eyes anymore.

These sunnies are stylish effective and kite-ing designed in mind. They have spring loaded hinges and if your lucky enough to Live in WA, ill send you some invites to their next warehouse sale. Where you can score em for around $20.

I think they're aussie made too.

Hey INDIE I love a good wharehouse party... oonsk oonsk oonsk oonsk oonsk oonsk oonsk tikka tikka tikka tikka.

I also love a tops surf bargain, any chance of a mail list addition? Sunnies and me go like this:

Servo $10-$20 at least 6 months

Name brands $100+ no chance of lasting longer than a fortnight!! Murhy's law or sumpin??

Cheers.

My experience is that Rainex and similar water repellants on the inside make glasses fog up. If you don't put Rainex on the inside, a thin film of moisture forms and sweat vapour just gets absorbed into it. If you use a water repellent, each drop of sweat vapour beads up, causing the fog effect. Rainex is great on the outer surfaces, but on sweaty days its better to put anti-fog stuff or nothing on the inside.

I'm using uv-rated tinted safety specs < $10 very happily. The ones with the reflective lenses tend to block the glare best and look more weird.
I don't find salt spray build up a problem, however, on longer sessions I often get smears of my zinc cream building up on the lens, so have to stop for a few secs and clean them off on my boardies. As getting sunburnt isn't an option I want to consider, I am happy doing this until a better idea comes along...
