Koh Samui or Hua Hin - Tailand - www.kiteboardingasia.com
Mui Ne - Vietnam - www.kitesurfing-vietnam.com

Getting towards the end of the windy season soon.

Chris,

The Westerlies have just started in the Thailand area, so you may want to consider Phuket? It's close to KL, cheap, nice people, good food, and has some decent spots to ride on the west coast. However, it is S.E. Asia so the wind is sketchy , but if you have to sit on the beach and wait, Thailand is a good place to do it. (They've got a cable wakeboard park in Phuket too). If we are heading that way and the Westerlies are blowing, we ride at Nai Yang Beach just south of the airport. There are two kite shops at Nai Yang, KBA (Kite Boarding Asia), and Kitezone. Plenty of accommodation options available, from about USD $25 a night up to megabucks. Last time we stayed at a place about 7 minutes walk from the beach, which was really clean, air conditioned, and cable TV, for US $25 a night, awesome value .

This is the season that Bali is supposed to get some wind, but I haven’t had the chance to kite there yet. Been monitoring the wind forecast for a while now, but so far I haven’t seen anything to get on a plane for? (Maybe Janke has a better report to offer?)

We’ve also been keeping an eye on the wind forecast for the Maldives which has looked pretty impressive lately, but no idea yet on the where you could ride there. You can be pretty sure though that it won’t be a cheap place to house and feed yourself!

Yeap this year the trades are late...
We still ended up having few riding days in May but mostly at the beginning of the month!!!
But just today the forecast start to show some wind action on the horizon....

So I think from this week the season should definitely start.

Vietnam (Mui Ne) also works in the SW monsoon May~Oct, but with a lot more rain ... same for Boracay in the Philippines ... Phuket can be good, but again depends on how much rain - last 2 years haven't been that good ... forget about Samui or Hua Hin this time of year ... Pattaya can be ok (plenty of things to do there in low season if no wind )

Hey Buzz glad to see your still pimpin your ass round Asia.

The winds been pretty good over the low season so far. Plenty of rain in Mui Ne, catching frontals mainly. The rains have come early so June / July looks like it could be a good month.

Super hot in the mornings as the thermal builds sometimes cross off, you'll get about four hours + riding on a good day. Take big kites with a 12m being standard.

Check out www.stormkiteboarding.com if you need any kite for hire or sales.

Hot tip : If it's off shore in Mui Ne main beach drop by and see Neil at The Sailing Club he'll point you in the right direction for some on-shore wave sessions.
