Saturday 27th January 1pm onwards!

Hi all,

NSWKBA is proud to promote the new "Southern Sydney Kiteboard Club"

A Welcome BBQ is organised for 1pm Saturday the 27th of January.

All Sydney, Botany bay and NSW Kiters are welcome to attend and celebrate the formation of a well needed and wanted club in the Bay.

It is a great way to meet a fantastic, friendly local crew and learn the "Do's and Dont's" in the area.

Please tell all your friends and look forward to meeting you.

Cheers,

Marcel

Nothing like a good bbq with friends and kiting at the weekend!

Count me in. Would be great to see lots of female kiters there too :-)

Keeping it at the top.

Uber,

Looks like you guys don't have much luck in picking a day for a BBQ. It looks like it's going to be very windy (25-33knots SE), which are not ideal conditions for Dolls.

The Southerly change is coming in the afternoon and I assume the wind will range from 15-35 knots in the first 1-2 hours until it settles down.... On top of that, Dolls doesn't get the cleanest wind in a southerly. Wanda will probably be better/safer....

Moritz,

You are a very skilled kiter who can go out in pretty much anything, so you'll be aware that
Wanda isn't suitable for everyone as you have to be competent and confident enough to go out in waves as well as strong winds. This doesn't suit quite a lot of kiters....me included as of yet.

Wanda also doesn't have sheltered areas for the bbq where those who can't kite in strong winds can watch in relative warmth and comfort.

Dolls is the best in the area and iss fine to kite at in a southerly.

Good point Caelah alot more kiters are a used to flat water than surf and 15 to 35 knots in washing machine surf at Wanda is not my idea of kiting, its more a kitefight.

Good to see the club is kicking off , wish I could be there but I will be away for the long weekend, and good point Uber about going through the Do's and Dont's as Dolls is the spot where most of the problems occur.

Keep up the good work.

Would loooooove to make it, and see you all.... But you guys know where I'm stuck at.... Saturday was non-negociable.....AAAAAAAAAAAh!!!!!!!
I'm dying to have longer than a 1 day week-end right now.... sigh....
So big hugs to you all, Caela, Pete, Gav, Daniel, Justin, George, Marcel, Ian, everyone.
Throw big airs for me please!!! (doing my new moove: knock out board off. Just smash the board as hard as you can on your face as you take it off your feet... it's worth 10 points more if there's any blood!!!)
-and throw some fish on the barbie, pretending I will come around to eat it... Ouh, getting all emotional suddenly..... (better: keep the fish!... will nostalgically throw it back in the ocean 2 days later.... hm... might not swim as good tho.....)-
May be I had too long of a day! LOL.
Have fun guys!

Caelah,

It's a fair point that Wanda is not for everyone (which at times can be a good thing). Dolls might give some riders (in case the conditions get really bad) a false sense of security. Combine that with the "dirty"/gusty winds coming over the headlands and it's perfect mix for disaster...

So I'm just saying that it's unfortunate that we're not getting one of those smooth NE winds on Saturday....

I'm looking forward to the BBQ and hopefully not too gusty/cold winds...

Come on EM you need to sort something out on the weekend, you have missed out on some of the best kiteboarding sessions, last weekend doing that downwinder to Shoalhaven Heads was unforgettable.

Your going to have call in sick next time we do the downwinder which will hopefully be next weekend Im sure your new friend the R7 Rhino would love to hit some descent surf and super smooth Ne winds.

I know the boys are going to the Central Coast on Saturday but I guess you have to work..

Great to hear will be there with bells on
But dont think it will be a kite day 15 - 35 SW in the bay is very ugly and the chop will almost be as big as the waves in wanda,
but Dolls is a good picnic spot

With at least three NSWKBA Committee members, Southern Sydney Club and plenty of responsible and conscious local riders at the bbq then we should be able to ensure only those who have the skill levels to go out actually get on the water. Safety comes first as everyone knows!

See you at the bbq :-)

Forecast is still looking pretty good for tomorrow. It seems that we'll be getting some really decent winds.

After today I have to say that we will have to be extra careful as things can happen super fast.

Tim did an amazing stunt at Towra and flew 50 meters in to the bushes/trees. I was present at the time of the incident and watched it in disbelief. I was even more astonished that he came out of it with only a few scratches. I was absolutely sure that he would not have survided that without major injuries...

Tim's rescue was not without it's challenges... The bushes and branches at Towra are really hard to penetrate... It took us over 30 minutes just to get to him. His kite ended up another 30 meeters into the bushes on top of a tree. Master climber Anelo managed to get up there and remove the kite. And there was another big surprise. The kite didn't have a single hole (Flexifoil must use some pretty special materials). All in all we probably spent 2 hours to get everyhing out to the beach...

Steve was great in getting a pump to Towra so Tim could get back to Dolls and cellebrate with a few beers...
