On friday I get my full retractable visor gath helmet! It's going to be a black helmet with a red tinted visor. I shall be known as Space Invader Zim, after my favourite space dude.

Person: Oh my god you're making the fire worse!!!
Space Invader Zim: Worse? Or BETTER!!!!!!

(Note- I am also a professional fire dancer/pyromanica)

You shall see me out at leighton flying a 7m Warrior or a 15.5m Titan.

Space Invader Zim

I think i would prefer to call you FlyingGeekBoy.

I can tell you now that a full viser Gath will not only make you look like a complete Geek but will ruin the Whole experience of being out on the ocean on a sunny day screamin along behind a powered up kite.
Don't get me wrong im all for saftey, but i recently brought a pair of Aqua Googles to stop myself getting blinded by spray and find that they somewhat ruin the experience a bit.
But each to their own.

I have a very practical reason for getting a full visor gath. Firstly I burn in under 10min in the Aussie sun so I have to wear a fair bit of sunscreen, and even then... At the start of the season I was out on the water for about five minutes before I quite literally could not see, a combination of sunscreen and salt water had an effect similar to rubbing chilli in your eyes. This was quite worrying considering I was overpowered and about a km out on the ocean. I cant stop my eyes reacting with sunscreen but I can wear a pair of glasses or a full visor gath helmet. Sun glasses under my gath helmet hurts the head too much and would cause damage if the helmet was struck so I go the full visor gath. Saftey and health before image buddy.

Oh yeah and the visor is retactable so I can just flip it up when kitesurfing away from the sun anyway.

I think the flyingwhiteboy needs to stay at home and take up knitting or chess. The ocean is a bit hardcore for him.

Yeah great ideas guys!!!! This is such a supportive forum, everyone is so loving!! Perhaps if I top off the outfit with wearing my bright red jocks over the top of the harness, i would really pull the chicks!!

I may be a bubble boy in the wide wide dangerous world, but I'm also a med student and I know what a face looks like after a dozen melanomas have been cut out of it. I also have a strong aversion to my eyes having beetroot red burn circles around them for half a week. Kinda hipocritcal considering the level of danger there is in kitesurfing anyway (not to mention my motorbike racing or fire breathing escapeds).

Oh yeah how bout that incident last year where a guy copped a board in his face breaking his jaw, nose and half his teeth, plus a large chunk out of his neck thanks to the fins. He would have paid out a small fortune to some lucky Perth dentist.

Damn board leashes!

No perhaps deej is right, the ocean may be too hardcore for me, I should give up kitesurfing and stay at home playing chess and knitting and I will only venture out into the world to race my uniquely apolstered Kawasaki, get paid to spin/breath fire, cut open dead people 12hrs a week in uni labs and do free rope rock climbs out in the old quarries.

Why do I kitesurf again? Oh thats right I enjoy the uniquely individual sport where you dont have to interact with the arrogant, image orientated, ego driven people within the sport. Its not like surfing or football or chess. (Those damn chess nerds can really get abnoxious and violent).

off topic...

just out of curiosity FWB, what bike did/do you race and where? i read kwaka at one stage... are we talking motox, enduro, road race?

i'm assuming the name FWB comes from aerial action on a 2 stroker as FWB on a road bike means badly hammered 'nads amidst serious tank slapping terror.

Haha, yeah believe it or not I did manage to high side my GPX 250 so "FWB" could come from that incident, although it mostly refers to my antics with a 15.5m titan in overpowered conditions. I've pondered taking up motox as a replacement to road racing since I highsided badly 6 months ago but I'm yet to find the dosh cause of the repairs to the GPX.

still off topic...

can't say i remember you from my racing days at wanneroo. i would have noticed anyone trying to race a GPX250. i'm sitting here shaking my head wondering how you managed to highside a 250 4 stroke... nice work. what sort of lap times did you manage?

I mean road racing as in ROAD racing. We used to race each other out on the streets, never tried it on a track, probably a fair bit safer I'de imagine. Me and my mate thought it would slow us down on the roads if we headed to the race track to do a few laps every week or so. Do you know how much that would cost?

I was so dark about my crash. It was the last corner before my house. I was taking it very quick, grinding the left hand peg hard. Somehow the peg managed to break off early in the corner. My instinct was the wrong instinct, ie right the bike mid corner, I realised my mistake immediately and tried to lay the bike down again but I hit the curb enough for the handlebar to slam into the tank and throw me over the top/left side of the bike. I'm a little unclear about how it all happened but this is the way I see it in my head.

Highsiding a gpx by fulling opening up out of a corner would be fairly difficult.

Used the new gath for the first time yesterday and it worked out fine! It paid for itself three times over as the board hit me twice in the head and I was struck once in the face! Good old retractable visor worked perfectly.

I highly recommend getting one just for safety sake.

I was also testing out a new board, a waisty and a newly repaired kite which resulted me having the worst session in about a year. grrr
How do you guys deal with the waist harness riding up so high?
