In need of general info on stance position on a twin tip.

a)What effect does having your feet "ducked out" more or less have?

b)Or what is the effect of moving your feet further apart or closer together have?

c)Which stance is best for wave riding, which is best for flat water?

Lots of questions, just want to experiment a little and find whats best for me. Thanks in advance for any advice.

wider stance will make you have better style and land your tricks with more ease, narrow stance will give you a better ability to go upwind.

Hi Baz,

Dustins pretty much on the money. Having your feet more or less "Duck" will be determined by how wide your stance is, the wider your stance, the more toe out you should have .... to a point.

Too wide a stance with not enough toe out can lead to knee pain so it is worth checking it out and experimenting. Having your feet further apart will definately make landing tricks easier but going uncomfortably wide will make you less comfortable and may cause ankle issues depending upon how tall you are and how wide your feet are apart.

Wave riding stance is usually dictated by the board if you are riding a surfboard and is also a factor of how powered you are riding. Riding unstrapped in smaller surf or in more marginal conditions is better as you can shuffle your foot position to trim the board for optimal wave riding.

On a twin tip you would expect to be powered so a comfortable stance is probably best with a bias towards slightly wider than your shoulder width.

To determine your natural stance. Take a normal step forward and stand with your arms by your side, don't think about foot position or stance, just place your feet where they naturally want to go. This should give you an idea of your natural "duck". Width is usually shoulder width being ther centre of your footstraps, an inch either way will be OK, but lean towards going wider.

Hope this helps,

If you put the inside screws for the footstraps about shoulder width apart, this should put the center of your feet just past your shoulders. This should be a good stance, but on most good boards you can adjust the straps a little in either direction. Start with this and then adjust if you feel stretched or closed in.

Step up on to a chair and then jump off.
Where your feet land is your natural stance.

Michion's on it..

When working out where to put my straps on ye home made board, I just jumped off a few ledges and what not, noticing where my feet land, once I had a pretty consistient width that was comfortable, that's the one I went with, on went the straps and hey presto, the board worked!

Ride on!

When riding bows and hybrids it is important to have the Poo stance sussed.
Go to a pub late at night and do a **** after the seats been pissed on. Hover above the rim and squeeze one out. Check the knee/hip flexion and try to replicate whilst riding(except the squeeze one out bit).
