Thought I'd post this after an incident at Altona(Melb) today.

I don't no how it happened, but when we looked up after some yelling, a kiter was sitting on his ar$e with his kite lines wrapped around a light pole. He had about 10 mtr's of his line's from him to the pole and the remaining 14 odd mtr's running at 90 deg with the kite doing a merry dance, to make it worse, another kiter was trying to pry the lines from around the pole(he still has all his fingers).
The pole is right on the bike path, which had people sitting on the retainer wall, and behind the path is parked car's. The kite, "love tapped" a woman sitting on the path a few times then proceded to see how many cars it could bounce off. The kiter, still sitting on the ground stunned. Luckily there was a vacant car spot, so I ran over and caught the kite as it was bouncing backwards and forwards on the car roofs.

If a situation like this should happen, "PULL THE QR". I spoke to the kiter later and suggested that he should have pulled his QR and this situation, walked backwards with his hand on his flaged line QR, ready to pull if it didn't flag properly. He was a nice enough bloke and said that he did'nt no what to do.

If you are just starting out, if your landing your kite and someone is catching it, or it has gone out of control and someone has caught it, If you can see that they have hold of your kite, walk towards them to relief tension on the lines. It was like trying to wrestle a gorrila today grabbing the kite and just as well one of the lines snapped as I was grabbing it.

"PRACTICE YOUR QR AND KNOW HOW TO USE IT"

The only danger with Altona is the narrow launch area and I would say this is more likely to have a ban which would be sad because its got insane flat water. If you have any damage to property the likelihood of a ban is probably pretty high.
