just got back in from a sick session at secrets was windy as i was lit out on my 8 and twinny but still had a sick time storm kiting is the way ahead and is approved by waksa lol
Funny seeing yourself pumping up on the beach, no where to hide these days. You gotta have a plan and some firm rules, know when is front hitting, check the rain radar for thickness of rain patches, we were gonna hit back to the beach as the first rain drops hit, use a kite that can handle 25 to 40 knots,7m or less, don't get lofted, pull the safety as soon as you get over powered, and ONLY kite these conditions if you have LOTS of beach down wind. We spoke the mantra on the beach before we kited.
tut tut, loon. i went to cott and got cold feet, actually cold everything and went home to stay warm.
Storm kiting isnt mega dangerous, going out in conditions your not experienced enough to handle is. *unless there is lightning, then i guess its pretty dangerous even hair raising. i will have to try it one day to find out
never used to contemplate days i now look forward to kiting on ie gusty rainy w/nw esters,
high depower kites have made a big difference,
still need to be mindful and careful, go with mates, safety first -dont launch in squalls, know the territory ie bail out areas, stay well out to sea if caught in squall, use the depower strap
must say having the best fun last few weekends, rebel 7 or 10m surfboard and some right handers!!
