Is there a difference, or is it just personal preference?

what would you recommend for beginning?

Its all about personal preference.
I found personally i improved significantly after starting to ride with boots. It also depends on your riding style.

Cheers

For a begginer I would reccomend straps 100% unless mybe they are from wakeboaring background or something, even then. Boots will decrease your upwind ability and mke it hrder to get on nd off your bord which you will be doing quite a bit beggining. After that it's personl preference... It would be hrder to learn to kite in boots..

I found straps a little different at first and for 2 or so months used the heel straps in conjunction with conventional straps.. really helped for me when learning to jump etc and never really got in the way... and when you dont want to use them they just fold over the strap body. I used the Liquid Force ones - bought them from a shop in Perth - escapes where...

dont know why anyone uses boots, heavy, expencive, polute the air heaps and will break both your legs even when your not wearing them.

if lies dont put you off them then the truth is a begginer would probably drown with boots, there something different and fun, i wouldnt swap back my self though.
