Hey all,
I wanna take a kite trip for 8 or 9 weeks in October and November, and thinking of Sumbawa. Has anyone been this type of year? Is it established? Are there other kiters?
Cheers,
Tom

I have been twice once in September and the other time in October. Swell is generally reliable but more so in winter months, seasons vary and the last one was not typical probably becuase of El Nina the winds were unusually light and inconsistent.
My take is that it is not generally windy in June and July [when Bali is gettings its strongest trades] August the thermal pattern starts to work and is consistent throughout September and October and less so in November but in December the annual rain bearing NW monsoon begins and you would want to be out of there.
Obviously this season is nothing like WA and comparisons are misleading. The interesting thing about Lakeys is that the SE trades seem not to be necessary ingredients for strong wind, rather it is the trades backing off to light easterlies and North easterlies in the late winter and pre wet that allows the thermal to build [just as in WA an onshore breeze in the morning is the kiss of death for a seabreeze]
I noticed that on teh windiest days ther was an offshore in the morning albeit light and the clouds are moving from due east not SE like the afternoon wind.
Also be aware that unlike WA the wind often peaks early and starts to fade mid afternoon and riders in the know are going out as soon as the breeze it hits about 11 am.

Agree with Niall.
In the 10 days we were there last year in Sep it was between 12-18 knts.Wind 11am to 4pm typically.
You also want high tide coiinciding with the best wind.
If you want to get a close look at the waves there (there are 3 main ones) watch Space Monkeys 2. About half of the footage from this vid is at Sumbawa.(It is the bit where they say they are going to North Korea). Also there is some good footage at the end. I also noted that they seemed to be kiting in 18-28knt strength winds too. So it does blow there.
