I kited over there in 2008, lots of people...
If you want semi uncrowded paddle surfing conditions, be prepared for paddling out in the dark before sunrise.

Wind wasn't the greatest when I was at Lakey's, a couple of days on the 11 and one day on the 7. Only two other kiters there when I went, a french (or euro of some sort?) who had been there for a while and another aussie dude.

I'm taking a month off middle of this year and exploring further east past Sumbawa...

If you want some real adventure, try Sumba.

Mid year there are trade winds which blow up to 14-16 knots. I went a few years ago with a mate and we didn't get a kite in cos the wind was crap when we were there.

Scored a few days on 11 & 12m kites and surfboards at Sanur though, not that I'd ever ride a sb with a kite that big back home.

In hindsight It wasn't worth carrying around all the gear, and I should have just taken two good surfies.

Hey LtF, I guess with your response you were specifically taking about Bali.

Sumbawa and Sumba are quite a "ways" from Bali.

Miles away.

Culturally different too.

Mmmmm.

The further east of Sumbawa you go, the greater need of some Indo travel you must have.

Otherwise stick to Bali.

Hey Benny,

I've been over there a few times now with and without my kites, and only managed to kite once.

All trips have been between July-October, and my last trip in September was the only trip with winds worth kiting in. And I didn't take my kites.

You'll score epic waves, but the crowds over there are a joke now. Even off the beaten track you can travel to places that you've never even heard of hundreds of miles from the closest surf camp or boat itinerary, paddle out with nobody around and within 30mins you've got 15-20 Brazo's pop out of the bush and into the lineup.

Good luck with the travelling though, I've never had a dull trip over there.
