What a crazy weekend - Saturday was nuts - we did a downwinder from Maroochy North Shore to Yaroomba - about 2 hrs including a bit out at the island. The swell was about 8ft. Only got out the back about 6 times and rode some mountains back in. There was almost no beach left to launch and land from all the erosion.
Was down at the Goldie for the weekend. Saturday arvo was a bit patchy with the wind (looked a bit better earlier on). Sizeable surf as well. Sunday arvo was great. The wind came in late and there were some fun waves to ride. Missed the north coast organised downwinders as walking/doing big tacks out the back to gain back ground was bloody hard work. Hope this is a good precursor as to what we are in for this summer!!!!
How was the kiting out at Brays rock? I have always wanted to head out there (but not solo). Was it much of an upwind effort to work your way back to the bar afterwards?
Yesterday was another epic session. I only got ur phone message today simmon, soz mate. We were lucky enough to have Ben Wilson back from overseas and with the crew. I got so nailed on one wave though. I caught one of the biggest heaviest waves of my life, then the bloody wind stopped. It sucked me up and threw me down hard on my lines. I remember tumbling under that torrent of water and weight thinking "****, if im tangled in the lines now im dead." I wasnt tangled thank god. I hit the release and let the kite fly to the shore b4 the wave hit it. My arm hit the board whilst tumbling under the water so now i have an ugly purple bump on my arm. The next challenge was that looooong swim back to shore swimming through all that whitewater. Near death experience included both days were easily the best sessions and experiences of my life 10/10.
Echostorm, I concur with you mate!! That was absolutely nothing short than 10/10 and to meet Ben, very lay'd back easy to talk to without any ego certainly gives the sport a refreshing look than surfing at the points. And watching young Dustin carving the mighty 8 footers with the dad gave it complete buzz. To all the crew on Sat & Sunday hats off, guys balls to the wall that was fun....Hoping for cyclone season to bring back the adrenalin.
Gotta agree with you guys, easily the funnest sessions of my life, yeh was great to have ben come along and make us all look bad, never seen such good kite control. But know the swell is pretty much gone and so has the wind but with global warming we should hopefully see some more cyclones next year to get the buzzz going again.
Nothing yet - hoping for some later. Doesn't look too promising though. There may be a 15knot ESE at best later in the afternoon which will be good for the rivermouth.
