Had a call saying a well known local ( who likes to wear rubber wrestling costumes) was reported flyng through the air for at least 30m and landing in the trees in the car park.
Is this true - Capt gumby we need a full report.
Was there any damage to the tree?

Is a great story but as I wasnt there I am not telling it

Yes, a well known Cairns local and all round good fella, tried his hand at the new extreme sport of speed tree climbing using a powered 12m kite in 20 knot onshore conditions for assistance. The technique proved to be an instant success as he found himself a good 12 to 15 foot up the tree in no time at all.

In all seriousness there has been a bit of a trend for a couple of blokes to drop their kites in the wind shadow between the trees near the car park to self land. The fella in question (who has done this successfully many times before) went for the self land. Rear line caught a branch and pulled hard sending the kite into a very powered kiteloop upwards causing the bloke to take off upwards with an incredible horizontal speed towards the trees. Landing up the top of the trees and was stuck dangling from his lines while his kite plowed into trees further up.

One very lucky boy, no damage except for skin grazes and unbelievably the kite recieved no damage what so ever. The tree on the other hand is worse for wear but from all reports is on the mend. The big fella was very shaken and he and the rest of us learnt a very valuable lesson that day.

Cheers

Yeah I could here the big fella from my place and I live 10k's away. At first I thought it was a flock of crows, "Faaaaarrrrrrkkkkk, Faaaaarrrrrrkkkk"
Tough prick is back on the water though, shaken not stirred.
