Ive kited now for five years. Twinny for the first few and surf board for the last couple. My back gound is heavy in both wakeboarding and surfing.
I really enjoy watching the top wakestyle riders throwing down big styley tricks but even the leaders in the surf scene fail to inspire me....
Frontside bash, frontside bash, frontside punt, frontside punt, shoulders squared, kooky stance...Really dull... Dont get me wrong, BennyW bombing macking cloudy is insane but I think theres a style issue here that needs to be addressed...
Taking nothing away from the fact that these guys rip but its kinda like watching a really hot chick with a limp... Somethings- just- not- right...

Each to their own i guess. I come from a surfing background and love watching surf style. but i would much rather be doing than watching.

I come from the same, wake and surf. And I find the opposite.. Wake/freestyle is thrown off the same kicker/flat water never changing.. Gets boring as hell. Yeah Kitesurfing gets repetitive aswell but at least the scenery changes :)

I've often thought on the flat water that watching a kiter from a distance doesn't convey the speed, sound and sensation of watching that beautiful wake sluice out from behind.

Re surf style, even watching a great surfer in good waves becomes monotonous after a while, same moves, same style. I love to surf and kite, but I can't sit through more than about 5 minute of either on video.

The general public are impressed by spectacle, you hear them ohh and ahh when someone does a big boost or falls hard.

Personally, I'm not so concerned how it looks, we all know, surf or flat water, there's lots of fun to be had out there.

If you come from a surfing background - kiters on surfboards in waves are never going to look as good- you just cannot get the right flow and fluidity when you are attached to a kite.

If you want to surf ...get fit and paddle out.

If you want to kite in the waves - get a mutant or ride a twin tip. Dont ride a surfboard and pretend to be doing something you are not...it looks $hithouse ( this applies to about 90% of people riding surfboards and more often than not they are riding in onshore conditions about 1m in front of the wave ( or way off on the shoulder ) not even hitting the lip or riding the face.

To progress kiting in the waves I think there needs to be a more original approach, more flips and spins off the lip..... more actual use of the wave to get airborne etc.... ie: bottom turn, off the lip into a boost then loop before landing on the same wave .....pop off the lip into a huge nuke grab before again smashing the wave.

Do stuff surfers cant do........ or be laughed at !!! because when you mimic them and look retarded thats what they are doing.

Hadlow or Wilson

Hadlow throwing megaloops- impressive
Hadlow doing handlepass fits.....no so

same with waveriding

Riding Mast height monster- impressive
riding waist heigh mush....not so

still love watching people getting nailed, especially when loops go bad or you get closed out and dumped on [}:)]

It's great fun to watch your mates on a day when it's blowing 25 - 30 knots and everyone's going for broke. I made this little movies a few years back. Some of the new guys may not have seen it. Appolgies to those who have.

This is just the local crew having fun, no big names. Enjoy.

I kind of agree with you but the problem is that generally kite moves are powered and not saying that wake isn't but forces are two dimensional, having said that if you look at guys like Andre Philip Harlow and the are a few more and they are starting to kite in the mini break and the style is skate/wake.....really smooth and stylish.....:)
