If your game the surf is breaking across Port Phillip Heads. Wind is in the right direction but perhaps a little strong at present.

awesome, im not a surfer but i have been told about this before.
Ive got some questions about it though, when it breaks if you get on a wave you can ride it in for 5 mins or so is that right?
What about the shipping channel?
Do you need a tow in?
Do you know of any links to a video of this or pictures even?
cheers

Port Phillip Heads has a tide of 7knots so the place to go is Leprosy Bay inside the heads on the Sorrento (Victoria) side. Only problem is you need a boat to get there. Wind needs to NW/NE and gives a long ride on big swells. These should stay for the next couple of days after last nights winds.

pretty sure both sides of the bay are victoria, i try to keep an eye on that section of the bay because there is an awesome surf spot near bye and it hasn't been breaking so i cant see how leppo's could be let alone over the heads are you sure it wasn't just tidle surges that happen every day coz if it was breakin over the heads i'm sure it would be on the news as a little town of queenscliff and point lonsdale would be under water

i think the spot delta is talking about is called qurratines its a long left hander was big during the week but not breaking across the heads some high peices of reef near the middle were geting some bomies breaking on them as far as kiting there you would have to kite on a s/se use a leash and have a large set of balls if its big if you did not use a leash and lost your board you would never see it again and as far as body draging id like to see that on a outgoing tide

You do get a "standing wave" effect as the tide rushes through the heads (ingoing or outgoing?) its pretty spectacular as its pretty flat then you get this point where the water jumps up a level and becomes really wavy. Was standing at Point Lonsdale one day when the Melbourne-Hobart guys were racing out the heads. They looked like the were having a cruisy day until they hit that wall of water...
