I ride a 7' NorWest "short" board an 8'2" Sunova Beach mini-mal and a 9'2" Warren Thompson standard mal.
Of the 3 boards the Sunova Beach mini-mal is the best allrounder

. It is a balsa laminated expoy number and is as light as a short board, paddles more like a mal but due to the scoop in the nose can take the drops on beach breaks or narlier reef breaks. Because it is so light it rides like a much shorter board. I've surfed it at places like Cables Artifical Reef, Triggs, Secret Harbour, Stricklands etc. It's a good board for my kids too...
