I travelled the neighbouring kenya coast 20 years ago around late August September just surfing and long before kiting was invented.
The local fisherman had 2 sail sizes on there outriggers. The big ones they use when they get the NE trades in our summer [Oct -Mar] that are generally light and the small ones in our winter when they get stronger SE trades that are generally cross on shore. APril to September' All I remember was that it was generally pretty windy in the arvos and would get blown out and the swell was consistent and occasionally big. I do remember surfing one classic R hand point set up on an the north end of an outlying reef where the swell wrapped around so that the wind was cross offshore. It was just south of Malindi and boy would i love to kite it now. I reckon a 12m hybrid [or 13C] and 9 [or 10C] would see you covered for all. The Tanzanian border is just 100km North of there so the set ups would be similar. Warm water and no real shark problems but definitely malaria risk. Good luck
Thanks for that info. Niall, I never thought that I would actually get some info. on this one. Sounds like Tanzania is kitable. I will be 300 km south of Malindi. From what I have seen on Google Earth I should get some nice waves and if lucky some wind too. Since I can only take 15kg of luggage on the shuttle plane to Mafia,I will only pack one kite, so it will be the 12m bow as I'm most familiar with it. Hope to take plenty of photos.
