Why is it that the IKO does not allow kitedragging gurus to use foil kites for certified lessons ?
Is an inflato kite 'safer' ??

IKO have a worldwide monopoly on the plastic pumps needed to pump up inflato kites, and they are only endorsing pump up kites because they are nasty.
Thats my conspiracy theory for today.

terms of iko insurance cover? wouldnt mean its any safer though, just legal insurance crap someone in an office someplace thought up to have payout loopholes, risk assement prior to cover iko , risk management involving structure iko teaching, not enough foil schools out there perhaps to pay for a diffrent structured iko lesson insurance cover... blah blah blah.. actualy why give a toss.?

it was meant to be windy today and it isnt!!!!

Hey 'slave,

IKO policy is that ANY water relaunchable kite with working safety systems may be used for lessons. This includes foil kites like Flysurfers. Open cell foils are not permitted to be used for water lessons for obvious reasons.

The new IKO Insurance policy covers kite surfing, land boarding, snow kiting, power kiting and buggying. All this so long as the kites have power killing safety systems and releases.

Their insurer of days gone by "Zurich" is being phased out. A new insurer is now covering IKO members in all parts of the world including USA and Canada. New insurer is Lloyds of London.

IKO is going through some major improving and overhauling at the hands of the very capable CEO Sandrine Roussos. Many problems being addressed.

I'm a little confused.
It seems some doonas are OK in the mind of IKO....
and some doonas aren't.
lol.
Is the Peter Lynn doona not permitted for water lessons ??
Please explain.

Hi 'slave,

I'll say it again. ANY WATER RELAUNCHABLE KITES with working safety systems are permitted to be used in water lessons. This includes Peter Lynn's flying sleeping bags!

If it is water relaunchable and has safety systems, it's OK! Older foils like the old Flexifoil Blades aren't water relaunchable and so aren't permitted, simple.

Where you gettin' your info?

I'm shaking....
not stirring.
The public need to be fully informed when purchasing secondhand and new doonas.
Brands and models of doonas that are IKO prohibited for use in certified lessons need to be listed.

That's correct, Lotofwind.
The buying public have rights.

How many times have you read posts about newbies buying kites on eBay.....?
and then they ask the forum members how to rig up the strings....
lol.
.....and the stock-standard reply to this type of inquiry is......
GET SOME LESSONS, noob !
But if the kite from eBay is one of those IKO prohibited pieces-of-sh1t....
then how can the dude get lessons ?
The dude needs to be an informed buyer.
Kite-savvy.
lol.

I think you'll find most IKO instructors supply kites, then once you've had your lesson, your instructor can inform you of what kite you should be buying-easy
